Truck tire replacement is not a tread-depth decision alone.
A tire needs immediate attention when you see conditions such as:
- exposed ply or belt material;
- tread or sidewall separation;
- a cut that exposes internal material;
- a bulge, distortion, or missing tread section;
- a flat condition or audible air leak.
Federal minimum tread depth is 4/32 inch on the front tires of a truck or truck tractor and 2/32 inch on other tires, measured as required by 49 CFR 393.75. Those limits do not replace a complete condition review.
Before requesting service, document the safe location, unit number, axle and tire position, tire size, tread readings, pressure if it can be checked safely, damage photos, load, paired tire condition, wheel or rim observations, and recent impacts or work.
Do not attempt roadside tire work where traffic, ground conditions, heat, smoke, or instability make the scene unsafe.
