My name is Doug Mitchell and I own a shop called Z-Fever in Tampa, FL. We have been in business since 1988. I LOVE Nissan Z-Cars. Always have, always will...
Back in the early 90's Nissan campaigned a Z32 300ZX in IMSA's GTP program. Steve Millen and Johnny Morton were the drivers. To Say that I was completely infatuated by these gorgeous cars is a severe understatement!!!!! They were dominant in the class! The 300ZX GTS won more races in the 6 years they raced it than any other car in history! I wanted to own one and in 1998 I purchased a this Nissan IMSA GTS body from Clayton Cunningham (of Cunningham Racing, the original builder of the racecars). It was a bare shell. The body was sent to a frame builder in Dade City Florida where the frame and interior panels were built. But funding dried up, life happened, and I never got around to finishing the car.
Well, I am finally getting back to finishing the car.
Please follow along with me in this journey. I am not building it to original specs. I will be using a Nissan V8 engine instead (the VK56DE) and twin turbocharging it. We will also be making her All Wheel Drive (AWD). The goal is to build a very respectable 800-1000hp reliable car that is fun to drive on the track. Not to build a complete replica of the 90's classic GTS Z.
I hope you enjoy the build and I look forward to your input and suggestions along the way.
Also, I will have this car built and completed and on display in Sept. at the Z-CON 2024 in Tampa, FL.
Thanks for following the build!
