Jumping into the weekend with more Commando Droid work. I may be doing more sanding than painting this weekend. I may surprise myself and sand quickly enough to paint, also. After these last few bits, this guy will be wrapped up. Weird that it’s time to decide what other droid to work on. May e well try a vote.

I didn’t accomplish as much as I wanted this weekend, but is there even such a thing?

I did finish the upper abdomen. The torso was ready to paint, but I found too many sore spots. I was being lazy and hopeful when I thought it was ready for latex.

The shoulders and arms are still raw prints. Or, at least, were raw prints until I did some welding and sanding.

Above all else, it feels great to be back in the garage sanding and painting. I plan on making the most out of this time while it’s here. I may change my tune once the sweltering heat arrives. 😁

Finally constructing a somewhat proper paint box.

I’m starting with a homemade shelving unit cubby approx 2’ square.
I used plastic to create the walls using 2 pieces: bottom/back and top/sides. I coated the inside with aluminum tape with the hopes of more light reflection and even view.
I drilled a hole in the back of the shelf and cut a hole in the plastic to insert a 4” coupler I printed. This piece will snap inside a right angle screwed into the back.
Added some strip lights.

Next step after adding the elbow is the fan and duct work. I also need to print some sort of filter holder to snap to the inside coupler.
The filter used comes in giant sheets that you need to cut.

Finally some Commando Droid progress!

He is painted and assembled from the torso down. Still need to add weathering, though. I am almost finished sanding the torso. Maybe a week or two left.

I decided to upgrade and make a proper paint box with filtration and fan. This created a twitch in my tisms and I now have the entire workshop on disarray for a rework. I’m snapping pics as I go and may create a small tutorial of what I’ve done.
