Happy Cinco De Mayo and late Earth Day from Perfect Enough Garage! To celebrate Earth Day I joined the MO Gambler 500 community’s event called The Fambler! It’s our family friendly version of the Gambler 500 where we do shorter, easier routes and focus more on enjoying the scenes and picking up as much litter as we can!

I also made some new friends over at TrailBuilt Off-Road so expect to hear some more on that! In the meantime be sure to checkout their goodies 😉 they loved the Wagoneer an the MO Gambler spirit.

Check out the video to see the fun and positive impact we have on America’s beautiful public lands of Mark Twain National Forest!

Working on my white ‘88 Grand Wagoneer. I was chasing an issue where I had no fluid traveling to the rear brakes. I replaced the wheel cylinders and hoses and tried to rebuild the stock proportioning valve, but I didn’t feel comfortable “perfect enoughing” the brakes on a vehicle. BJ's Off-Road Full-Size Jeep Parts has a sweet bolt in replacement that is a perfect fit and helped the brakes all around work wayyy better than ever before. Make sure you use the special tool to allow yourself to bleed the brakes properly on this style of proportioning valve because without it, it will block off flow to the half of the vehicle you’re trying to bleed!

Got the brakes working great again on the white Jeep - more posts to come! Thanks BJs for having the good stuff for FSJs!

It’s been way too long since I’ve posted! The super cold slowed me up a bit, but I’m eager to get the loose ends on my nice ‘88 Grand Wagoneer tied up. Doing some rust repair and fuel tank swapping fun.

What’s everyone else wrenching on?

I’ve got some bold Christmas break plans for the nice white ‘88 I have! I drove it off and on for fun a couple years ago and then eventually parked it because of a very bad transmission fluid leak. I assumed it was the lip seal that rides on the torque converter so I parked it and gave up out of frustration for a while. Just last night, I went to move it into the garage to work on it this Christmas break and it fired right up on ether and even idled beautifully. It was very low on transmission fluid so I kept adding it until I was able to get it into the garage, where it then was not leaking at all for some reason! I took it for a test drive around the block after doing a basic safety inspection and it drove amazing!

After getting back in the garage, I was able to diagnose the leak as being the transmission dipstick tube so I have fixed that with a new O-ring and a little bit of RTV. While it’s in here, I’m going to replace all the worn steering components in front, fix a power steering gearbox leak, replace any bad fuel lines, rebuild the rear brakes, new rear wheel cylinders, replace all rubber brake hoses, clean and flush, the master cylinder and hard brake lines, fix or replace the rusty fuel tank’s skid plate, do some minor frame rust repair while the fuel tank is out, and tighten up any other loose ends that I come across. It should be a great time! My biggest issue right now is I’m waiting on my Rock Auto Parts to come in the mail!! Should be here on December 26th 🤞🏻

I hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Finally did something that I’ve been dreaming of for years!!! I found a sweet Mexican blanket at an old gas station turned lil shop in Southern California earlier this year while I was there for work. I immediately knew this would be the perfect blanket for a headliner in the Wagoneer.

I used a firm 1” thick memory foam mattress topper that was Velcro’d to the roof in the front and spray glued to the roof in the other panels. I want to front to be removable incase I need access to weld brackets inside for a radio or other gear in there. A twin size mattress was the perfect fit and allowed the foam to tuck into the pinch weld area on the roof. I used that snug fitting foam to also hold tension on the blanket on the sides which worked perfectly. I did not glue the last 6” on each end which gives me easy access for future wire routing.

To help hold tension on the roof I used some 1/8” steel strap with washers on each side of it and acorn nuts (need more acorn nuts still) which threaded onto the protruding threads of the bolts that also secure my roof rack. Mint.

Super excited with how it turned out and I hope it keeps looking good!

In addition to the oil pressure, I’ve got the water temp gauge working too! This is the pressure and temp while buzzing down the highway. About 195F and I think I’ve got a 195F thermostat. And about 60psi of oil. Maybe I’ll compare that to a mechanical gauge to see if it’s accurate - or maybe I’ll assume it’s correct and roll with it! You could probably guess what I’m gonna do’s

Feels great to finally cross these two critical things off the to-do list before a roadtrip weekend!

I hope to see as many people as possible at the 2025 The Missourah Endurah at hooterholleroffroadpark this weekend! It’s an awesome weekend full of mini bike racing, campfire stories, sweet raffles, exploration, and most importantly picking up litter from public land and properly disposing of it. It’s a great time and I’m looking forward to seeing all my Gambler buddies there.

The Perfect Enough Garage Wagoneer will be there in most of its glory. I’ve got a few other little bonus things to accomplish before then, but it’s looking promising!

Now if only I could get this mini bike running for longer than 0.2 seconds at a time..
