Encouragement from our kids:
These pics were taken 10 years ago today. A 12 year old Nathaniel and I had just begun work on my high school Monza Spyder and we discovered a LOT more rust than I’d expected to see. He and I spent a few hours scraping close to 3 gallons of grime and undercoating off the underside of my car, and the more we scraped, the more rust that was exposed. Discouraged, I made an offhanded comment that we might be fighting a losing battle. He stopped scraping, took my hand, pointed and said, “Hey Dad!... A little hint... You see that spot there?” ( pointing to a rust hole) “Start there!” He continued, “...and then when you’re done with that, start over there.” Pointing my hand to a third spot, I understood where he was going with this; “...and then over there... And then there...” I smiled and mumbled to myself, “Just like eating an elephant.” Not realizing he overheard me, he chimed right in and replied, “Yep! One bite at a time!”
How about that!... He’d been listening to me after all. 😊
Now, the sad part of this story is that my car is STILL on that rotisserie with little done to it since. 😞
