Behind the Repair with Kai: When an RV Slide Stops Cooperating!

Sometimes replacing a broken part is only half the battle!

On a recent service call, Kai tackled an RV slide that was severely out of alignment and had a broken pinion gear.

After replacing the damaged gear pack and reconnecting the pinion rod, the real challenge began — getting the slide properly aligned.

Through multiple adjustments at all four adjustment points, Kai was able to get the slide operating smoothly again, with proper sealing in both the extended and retracted positions.

The end result? A fully functioning slide and one less headache for the camper owner!

A Little Preventative Maintenance Can Go a Long Way!

When was the last time you checked the sealant on your camper's roof?

Over time, exposure to sun, rain, and changing temperatures can cause roof sealant to crack, separate, or deteriorate, leaving vulnerable areas where water can work its way inside.

Kai recently spent some time addressing areas of deteriorating sealant around RV roof components, cleaning and preparing the surfaces before applying fresh sealant to help protect against water intrusion.

Did you know? Roof vents, plumbing vents, seams, and other rooftop openings are common areas where sealant needs regular attention.

One of the most important things RV owners can do is regularly inspect the sealant around their camper's roof, vents, skylights, and other exterior openings.

Over time, exposure to sun, rain, temperature changes, and normal movement can cause sealant to deteriorate.

And here's something many RV owners don't realize: water damage can develop inside the walls or ceiling before you ever notice a drip.

A few things worth checking:

• Cracked, separated, or lifting sealant

• Soft spots or discoloration on interior walls and ceilings

• Musty odors or unexplained moisture
