The weather could not have been any better on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the 2026 Fall Open House at the Packard Proving Grounds historic site.

Beyond the 20 lovely Packards parked in the courtyard between the two historic Albert Kahn buildings (the Lodge and the Repair Garage), car enthusiasts from around Utica, Michigan, brought at least another 200 classic cars from Corvettes, Mustangs and Cadillacs to a Studebaker, a LaSalle, and a pristine 1950s-era Chevrolet 3100 pickup truck two-tone painted cream and burgundy, just like the vintage Indian motorized bicycle locked in the bed.

In the tank building, historian Pat Connell told an attentive crowd about the proving grounds, which opened in 1928, and its importance to Packard during its heyday.

As a Boomer myself, this is a trend that I’m going to be part of. Do you have a plan for your Packards? Do any of you have family members who also love them and will take care of them?

About $570 billion worth of cars is set to change hands between now and 2040. What does that mean for the collector market?

Attention Motor City Packards Members!

Kevin Waltman, the Executive Director of the Packards of Chicagoland region of The Packard Club, has invited us to a technical session deep-dive on distributors on Saturday, September 12 in Highwood IL (approximately 25 miles northeast of O’Hare, near Lake Michigan).

If you are going to be in the area, or if you want to plan a weekend getaway, this tech session will cover how distributors work, and how to use a distributor machine to tune them up. This is a hands-on seminar, and Gary Thomas will have two distributor machines on hand for us to use.

Just for clarification, this is a learning/training session only. Please leave your own distributors at home, as there isn't enough time to go through everyone's projects, and the distributor machines and training materials are going to be set up for the specific demo distributors that Gary will be providing.

Gary also asks everyone to bring a folding chair if possible, to make sure there are enough seats for everyone.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

If you want to attend, please let either Kevin or Gary know ASAP so we can reserve a space for you.

VENUE: Gary's Garage, 327 Ashland Ave., Highwood, IL 60040
WHEN: Saturday, September 12, 2026
TIME: 1:30 PM (Remember, Michigan folks, this is Central Daylight Time!)

While hundreds of thousands of car enthusiasts gathered along metro Detroit's main thoroughfare for the annual Woodward Dream Cruise on Aug. 15, an even dozen Packard owners brought their cherished rides an hour north to Flint for Back to the Bricks, another annual classic car show that is much more manageable than the Dream Cruise.
The weather was fantastic in Flint, and Motor City Packards, with the help of local member Bruce Blevins, scored prime real estate on the brick-lined Saginaw Street for the occasion. Meet some of the people who devote a lot of time to keeping Packards on the road.

Ten Days of Packard 2026!

MCP Members John Lauter and Tom Upton took their 1956 Packard Four Hundred 2-Door Hardtops to the Hines Cruise on Sunday, August 23. John reports that these "Greatest Packards of Them All" (per the 1956 sales slogan) were two of a total of five Packards that were spotted during the Cruise.

Great looking cars in beautiful 1950's color schemes!

Ten Days of Packard 2026!

MCP Member and Assistant Executive Director Graham Kozak observes, "Sometimes Ten Days of Packard isn’t just about driving. I’ve been chasing down some intermittent fueling issues that have kept me from enjoying my ‘51 200 on the road. Hopefully the replacement auxiliary fuel pump clears up the issue. So far so good after an initial b**r run…I couldn’t make it to the national meet in Rhode Island but the Narragansett is the next best thing."
