I am so appreciative of all of the messages from fellow competitors & teams, track staff & race fans following Saturday’s incident in the pit area.

I am okay. I am on the road to recovery. I will be taking the rest of the year off from driving for my recovery but I will be back stronger than ever.

And I will still be attending the remaining races with my fellow teammates.

HELGER DRIVES THROUGH THE PACK TO WIN TRUCK PLAYOFF OPENER

SEEKONK, Mass. — One of the contenders for the Sunoco Drive For The Cup and the championship in the Sport Truck division, Richie Helger Jr., picked the perfect time to capture his second career victory on Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway.

The Story: Helger is one of the Final Four to race for the title over the final four weeks of the season in the Sport Trucks, and he made an early statement that he is going to be tough to beat. Helger started 7th in the 25-lap feature and worked his way through the pack to second spot just after halfway. A late restart gave him the opportunity to race rookie contender Jordan Duquette for the lead, and Helger took full advantage, taking the lead and driving away over the final laps to get to Victory Lane for the second time this season and first time since May.

The Top Finishers: Duquette scored his best career finish, a strong second. Jake Vanada, another playoff contender, finished third, ahead of two other playoff contenders, Ethan Heilborn and Scott Cestodio.

The Sport Trucks will be back on the track on Saturday, September 12, for round two of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

ROSE WINS WILD LATE MODEL PLAYOFF OPENER

SEEKONK, Mass. — Charlie Rose was back in Victory Lane for the second straight week in the Late Models on Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway, capturing victory in the first round of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

The Story: Rose worked his way to the lead early and looked in full control before a caution slowed the action. During the caution, an emergency in the pit area delayed the race long enough for the drivers to exit their cars. Once the race resumed, the battle to the finish came down to three Late Model veterans - Charlie Rose (the most veteran of the three), Jacob Burns and Chase Belcher. Burns passed Rose for the lead. Rose got back under him and raced him for it. They made contact. But they settled it out. And as the field took the white flag, it looked like it was Burns’ race to win. Belcher tried a three-wide move on the final lap in turn three, putting it all on the line to try and win the race. Rose slid up, Burns and Rose made contact, and Rose slid to the finish line to score the feature win in wild fashion. The race kept the fans on the edge of their seats right down to the finish.

The Top Finishers: Burns was second, with Belcher in third. Ryan Vanasse Jr. and Richie Murray, the two other Sunoco Drive For The Cup contenders along with Rose and Belcher, finished fourth and fifth.

The Late Models will be back on the track on Saturday, September 12, for round two of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

SERYDYNSKI EDGES HEDGES FOR SPORTSMAN WIN

SEEKONK, Mass. — It came down to the final few feet of the Sportsman feature Saturday night at Seekonk Speedway, and it was Scott Serydynski Jr. who found himself carrying the checkered flag as one of the four contenders in the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.

The Story: The first round of the playoffs brought a strong field of 28 cars to the track. Twenty-six of them took the green flag for the 25-lap feature, with Serydynski starting deep in the pack. Hedges jumped out to the lead early, passing Sparky Arsenault for the lead and driving away with it. Serydynski got closer as the race continued, getting the advantage of some timely cautions to help close the gap. However, he had a large gap to close to get to Hedges late in the race to battle him for the win. Serydynski caught Hedges, went to the outside, and the two raced side-by-side over the final four laps, with Serydynski edging out to capture the win. Serydynski crossed the line second with the white flag in the air, and came back off turn four and won the race. The outside pass earned him a smooth $500 bonus, a bonus program in place for anyone using an outside pass to win the race on the final lap.

The Top Finishers: Serydynski beat Hedges and Adam Pettey to the finish line. Jaime Robbins was fourth ahead of Randy Moretti in fifth. Serydynski and Moretti were the only two playoff contenders in the top-five.

The Sportsman will be back on the track on Saturday, September 12, for round two of the Sunoco Drive For The Cup.
