Built by friends over a weekend Carhenge is a great stop in Western Nebraska if you're out that way. Alliance Nebraska in the western part of the state.

The instructions were on the label the whole time. Bend the little tab after you insert the bar, and the jack stand stops coming apart in your hands. It's a small fix that makes garage work on the 1962 Fleetwood easier.

A lesson from the garage: check your assumptions, even the ones a smart tool hands you. The alternator I put in this 1962 Fleetwood is unregulated, but the advice I followed assumed it was regulated. That's the kind of mismatch that can overcharge and ruin a battery. I caught it in time, and matching wiring is on the way.

Tesla put rocket thrusters on a Roadster, so naturally the 1962 Fleetwood 75 needed them too. Meet the High Desert Caddy Mark 2. The hover part went great. The landing, less so. We'll fix that and get back to you. But come on, that's pretty cool, right?

Swap day on the 1962 Fleetwood. The original generator still makes power, just not steadily, so it's coming out for an alternator. One wire to the battery, one ground to the frame, and figure out the generator light. How hard could it be? (Watch to the end.)

New parts just landed for the '62 Fleetwood from Callahan Auto Parts out of Sandusky Ohio. Great outfit and the guy who runs the places seems like he'd be fun to party with.

The car's still down while I wait on the wiring part after an alternator swap, so I had some time to see who's paying attention. Restoring a 1962 limo in Santa Fe, one box at a time.

A small habit that saves a lot of skin. When you trim a zip tie at an angle, the tail is sharp enough to cut you when you reach behind something you can't see. Cut them flush, every time.

This one comes from the engine bay of my 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood 75, one of roughly 600 factory limos built that year.

Fellow wrenchers, what's your rule everyone should know?

Generator out, alternator in. The catch? I had to drill out a custom adapter just to make it fit.

At one point this '62 had mismatched headlights, two on one side and one on the other, straight out of "One Piece at a Time." So Johnny, if you're messing with me, well played.

Episode 8 of 8 - THE GRAND FINALE!!!

I have several minutes of footage of me unpacking the whole experience that just felt like brain damage to watch. Everything about this project was as far from "Plug and Play" as possible.

I'd like to thank my Dad for teaching me basic electrical on a model train set as a kid. This finally came together because I was comfortable finding out what worked and what didn't...safely.

The long format version will be up on my YouTube page after all 8 episodes have run.

Episode 7 of 8 - Dr Seuss made the Wiring Schematic
You might need this quick reference guide during this episode:

Caddy Black Wire = Negative
Caddy Green Wire = High Beam
Caddy Red Wire = Low Beam

Red Pigtail Wire = Negative
Blue Pigtail Wire = Low Beam
Black Pigtail Wire = High Beam

Plug Prong Left = High Beam
Plug Prong Middle = Low Beam
Plug Prong Right = Negative.

So...from the plug end:
Left Prong - Black Pigtail Wire - Green Caddy wire
Middle Prong - Blue Pigtail Wire - Red Caddy wire
Right Prong - Red Pigtail Wire - Black Caddy wire
