Today we celebrate our losses as much as our wins. Learning only happens when you make mistakes and this is one of my biggest mistakes on a track with very little margin for error. Previous to this, I actually considered myself to be a decent driver in the wet since I'm very comfortable sliding cars, but this folley reset all of that. I almost went into the wall and got collected by some of the cars behind me. This inadvertently killed my confidence for the entire stint making me extra cautious and slow. A million things were going on in my head like "I can't feel out the grip, I suck at driving mid-engine, I do not have the money to bin this car, etc, etc...", but this mental block was the biggest thing I needed to overcome. My crew chief even got on the radio to guide me through the rest of the stint and encourage me to get myself together. After it was all said and done we lost the overall win by 37 seconds and this was definitely from my spin costing us about 16-20 seconds, plus the lack of pace from a huge drop in confidence. All I could do was apologize to all the team, mechanics, co-drivers and anyone else that I had let down. After the day was over, I spent the entire night reviewing video and data to see where this happened and how it could have been handled better for the next time. Conclusion was, not enough tire warm up, pushing the car over a wet painted line, inexperience in mid-engine cars, and extra pressure moving up to the A team, but it will all just be excuses. At the end of the day, we can all use a little driver mod.
