What an absolutely incredible day.

Four years ago, my good friend Steve passed away unexpectedly. Steve was well-known for his high-end builds, his willingness to help others, and his ability to get rare unobtanium parts from connections around the world. The 2009 R1 in these photos was his final build.

Steve's son Max was young at the time. Over the last few years, Max has found his own passion for motorcycles. Taught himself to ride aboard his Yamaha PW50, which he's more than outgrown. His mom gave him a bit of incentive.....bring his school grades above a B and you get a bigger bike.

So, he did. 🤘

I did the shopping. Found the YZ125 and gave it the full MB Cycles treatment. Steve had a tackle box full of titanium bolts, used as many as I could in the build. Max only had one request - he wanted his dad's number.

Had to take photos of the two bikes together before loading the YZ.

Ride safe, Max. I'm sure your pops is grinning ear to ear watching you from above.

VERY productive road trip so far! Five days in California and I've scored a low-mile 1998 R1 and a 2004 R1 for a crazy low price.

Both will get OEM parts and hit the market soon!

Next up, California to Florida.....starting Monday. Phoenix. Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Pensacola, then possibly Orlando.

Delivering the special YZ125 to a deserving customer on Tuesday. Pics to follow. Truly can't wait.

Nice to he working with high end bits again on the latest build!

So....this is usually how it goes.

Local rider messages me about fairings I have listed on Marketplace. We get to chatting about the differences between a 4XV (98/99) and 5JJ (00/01) R1. He recently bought a low-mile R1 that the previous owner butchered with a mix of parts. He asks what other parts I have....

Forks, upper triple clamp, OEM exhaust, and more. I offer to install the parts.

Then he says he can CNC or 3D print just about anything. Game on!

24 hours later and his bike is on the table, getting the full MB Cycles treatment. OEM fasteners, brackets replaced, small repairs, quick clean and detail.

Back to the owner today!

Can't say too much about the latest project, but this should give y'all an idea.....😎

Well.....damn.

I've been making steady progress on the 1998 Yamaha R1 resto-mod over the last year. Decided to perform a compression check on the motor last week and found the #4 cylinder making barely 70 psi. Leak-down test revealed valve seat issues on cylinder 2, 3 and 4.

Pulled the head, LOTS of carbon on the piston crowns and valves/valve seats.

Small setback, but necessary to make sure the new owner gets a solid machine.

Progress on the 2002 YZ125. Few more bits, nearly there! Then the 1998 R1 and something very special after that! ...

The 2006 R1 is off to a new home with a VERY happy owner! Glad the right person found it!

Exactly what giving new life to a motorcycle is all about.

Good luck and ride safe!

Gave my smallest scoot some long overdue attention this week.

My little Yamaha TTR-110 spent years as my trash can hauler in San Diego; has an automatic transmission so I used it to pull trash cans up and down my old 20 percent grade, 500 foot driveway. Pretty much parked it when I moved here two years ago.

Rebuilt the carburetor with a genuine Mikuni kit, Twin Air filter, rebuilt the petcock, new Dunlop MX-34 tires, rebuilt forks and new shock, new chain and sprockets, new plastic, and an oil change. Set of graphics and a new bar pad on the way!

The 2002 YZ125 is coming along nicely. More engine work than I planned, but glad I had a look. The crank was shot, as we...

The 2002 YZ125 is coming along nicely. More engine work than I planned, but glad I had a look. The crank was shot, as well.

Little before and after on that Pro Circuit Products, Inc. Shorty, repacked and ready to roll.

Should have the crank done by the weekend and assembly next week. 🤘
