Tech Tip Tuesday - Keep The Center Pin In Place!

When rebuilding an open differential carrier, keep the cross pin lock from working loose. There is sometimes a little pin, that locks your cross shaft to the carrier. If the carrier has slop, there is a chance that pin can come loose. To keep it in place, put a little dimple near the opening, and the lock won't work its way out.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Inspect Solid Spacer Edges!

We see solid pinion spacers on a daily basis. One habit we have picked up, is to inspect the edges for damage. Even the smallest ding can make a solid spacer sit slightly crooked, give a false reading, or even loosen pre-load over time. So all damaged spacers must be fixed or replaced, prior to install.

Differentials live and die by thousandths of an inch. So make sure every detail is checked.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Chase Threaded Mount Holes!

IFS differentials are heavy and awkward. If after installation its discovered to have damaged threads in one of the mount holes, it may have to be removed, repaired, and reinstalled. Save the hassle, and check the threaded holes before installation.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Raised Shim Edges!

We've said it before. All shims MUST be inspected. Since shims are typically punched, thinner shims will sometimes have a little raised edge. If not dealt with, this little edge can distort over time, and loosen pre-loads. So before initial assembly occurs, all shims must be inspected for imperfections.

DIFFERENTIAL PRICES WILL BE GOING UP, ORDER NOW!

As we play catch up with our back ordered differentials, we are seeing a significant cost increase on our components. Because of this, we will be raising the prices of our fully built, lifetime differentials. Some prices will be going up a little, some more than others.

Our listed prices will still include our lifetime warranty, as well as free shipping. Nothing will change there. But the price of our fully built differentials will be going up. The prices will go into affect, one week from today. So if you have been on the fence about ordering one of our differentials, now is the time to do it.

Again, we are playing catch up with all back ordered differentials, and hope to have those going out the door here shortly. But all new differentials ordered after the price increase will be under the new price. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks!

Tech Tip Tuesday - Seat a Ring Gear with a Deadblow Mallet!

Continuing from our previous Tech Tuesdays. One way to seat a ring gear is to persuade it on with a SOFT mallet. A lead filled rubber mallet will be heavy enough to push on the ring, but soft enough to not do any damage. Just remember to always wear safety glasses!

Tech Tip Tuesday - Pressing On a Ring Gear!

Installing a ring gear can be a pain. So here is a trick to help. Once you can get a few ring gear bolts started, rest the ring gear on a set of soft supports (we use aluminum plates), and press the carrier in to the ring gear. Just remember to always wear eye protection!

Tech Tip Tuesday - Use a Honed Bearing Race as a Press Tool

When pressing a pinion bearing on to a pinion, use an old inner bearing race to support the new inner race. It's the right inner dimension, fits the inner race perfect, and wont typically interfere with the bearing cage. Hone the inside of the old race a little, and it will slip right off after use. Just remember to ALWAYS wear safety glasses, and don't apply more pressure than is necessary. Just enough to seat the bearing fully.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Measure Your Solid Spacer!

Before installing a solid pinion spacer, check to make sure it's machined correctly. Run your caliper on three different sides, to check if the ends are machined perpendicular to the body. If not, find a different spacer to use.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Oil Outer Pinion Bearing Before Installing Seal!

When building a differential, add a little bit of oil to the outer pinion bearing before the seal gets pressed in. This will help alleviate any dry bearing drag, when establishing your final bearing pre-loads.

Differentials live and die by how they are set up. Let us know what you think.
