I did some math last Wednesday on the way home from Willow Springs. Over the course of 25 years of my ownership, my 52-year-old 911 now has more than 27,000 on-track miles. That's only a small piece of its total mileage, but that's a lot to ask of any car, and it's a hell of a testament to the durability of Porsche's air-cooled 911.

I'm going to take it as flattery that a graphic I made (with Elie Man's cool vector art of my car) has been knocked off as a t-shirt in India.

But now I'm the one correcting the horsepower figure -- the long hood 911s did not have anything like 272 hp, and all of them are now older than 44 years.

Between the straightforward base versions of Porsche's 911 and their purpose-built race cars is the GT division, which creates the highest-performance versions of Porsche's still-street-legal 911s. The model the GT department came up with this year is the 911 S/T, which combines the 520-hp 911 GT3RS engine with a manual 6-speed transmission and an assortment of weight-saving and performance-enhancing mods. Andreas Preuninger has run the GT division for decades, and I was surprised in 2021 when he complimented my 51-year-old 911 on Instagram. Two years later, the GT division has come out with the first two prototypes for the 911 S/T, and one of them is black with the word Porssche in silver on the side. Not a huge coincidence, black being a common-enough color. But this week, Preuninger gave my car a shout-out again on Instagram. I'm very flattered.

The Petersen Auto Museum paid a visit a little while back in order to make a clip about my garage and my 'car collection.'
