Out with the old and in with the new.

Customer complaint of coolant in the oil (CAT C-12 truck engine). Found water pump leaking through the shaft seal into the crankcase. The customer was quite happy to hear it wasn’t something major such as a liner or cylinder head.

If you haven’t had enough northern lights this week, here’s some more.

Replaced a turbo actuator to finish out the day.

Customer complaint of no throttle response and engine dies shortly after start up. The actuator was essentially stuck, holding the exhaust side of the turbo closed. This causes exhaust to build up and “choke out” or suffocate the engine.

Replacing an exhaust manifold on a Paccar MX-13. Customer complaint of a screeching noise under load. Found gasket blown out on cylinder 6. The screeching sound comes from the thin metal of the gasket acting like a reed. The exhaust manifold was replaced due to the parent material being too corroded and eroded away to reuse.
