Did You Know Dealerships Face a 66% Annual Turnover Rate in Sales Alone? According to some reports.

Think about that number for a second. Two-thirds of your sales force is walking out the door every single year.

And when you look over at the service drive? The constant revolving door of advisors and technicians is just as damaging to your bottom line.

Why is turnover in car dealerships so dangerously high?

It’s not because good people are impossible to find. It’s because most management teams are trained to manage numbers, not lead people.

When employees don't receive real leadership, clear expectations, or structured career growth, they leave. And every time a seat empties, your store bleeds thousands in recruiting costs, lost sales, and damaged customer relationships.

At JDB TX LLC, we show you the exact path to slow this revolving door way down:

Real Leadership Training: We train managers across ALL departments—Sales, Service, and Parts—how to lead, coach, and retain talent.
Culture That Holds: We replace reactive hiring with hands-on accountability and structured development.
Long-Term Profitability: Lower turnover means happier customers who see the same trusted faces in sales and service year after year.

Stop paying the high cost of constant turnover.

10,000 Views Means Nothing if You Didn't Sell Any Extra Cars.

Using social media just to chase views and clicks without moving the needle on unit sales or service traffic is pure distraction.

I spoke with a dealer recently who proudly shared that their store got 10,000 views on social media last month. That sounds impressive—until you ask the only question that actually matters: How many more cars did you sell because of it?

If views don't translate into real showroom foot traffic, trade-ins, or closed deals, it's just a waste of time and focus for your team.

Here's what happens when social media strategy goes off track in a store:

Self-Promotion vs. Store Success: Too often, content becomes about making individual managers "social media famous" rather than promoting the dealership as a unified brand.
Views Don't Pay the Bills: High impression numbers look nice on a vendor report, but gross profit and unit count pay the bills.
Teams Win, Not Solo Stars: Social media creators are a dime a dozen, but real frontline teams who work together to close deals and serve customers are what drive dealership valuation.

At JDB TX LLC, we help dealerships eliminate distractions, align frontline teams, and focus on real-world profitability.

Whatever Happened to Treating the Second Biggest Purchase in Life Like It Matters?

For most families, buying a vehicle is the second largest investment they will ever make. It used to be that when a customer walked into a showroom, they were treated like royalty from the moment they stepped foot on the lot.

Somewhere along the way—especially during the COVID era—standards slipped. Today, frontline staff at many dealerships dress and present themselves with less professionalism than you see at a local electronics store or standard retail business.

Psychology in business is simple: People evaluate your credibility before you even say a word. How your team presents themselves sets the tone for the entire transaction.

When you lower your standards, you lower your perceived value:
First Impressions Count: Greeting a customer at the door in professional attire signals respect, confidence, and authority.
Building Immediate Trust: Professional presentation justifies gross profit and reassures the buyer they are in expert hands.
Dressing to Impress Is Business 101: Setting higher expectations for your staff changes how they view themselves and their role.

At JDB TX LLC, we help dealerships reset standards, elevate professional culture, and drive real-world profitability.

The Hidden Cost of Dealership Turnover: Why Are Your People Really Leaving?

Every time I see dealerships constantly advertising for new sales reps or service personnel, one question comes to mind: Why did your last employees leave?

And more importantly: Who actually hired them in the first place?

Was it HR? An outside recruitment company? Or the managers who have to work with them every single day?

If candidates are so great when they are hired, why are most of them gone within months?

Here is what 40 years of retail experience taught me about building a winning team:

Never Outsource Your Front Line: In 40 years, I never allowed an outside firm or HR department to interview potential staff for my teams. HR handles compliance—managers handle hiring.
Multi-Stage Manager Interviews: Department managers interviewed every single candidate. A second manager conducted a second interview that same day. If it was a manager role, the Controller and I interviewed them together to ensure alignment on vision and culture.
No Manager Is Too Busy: Nobody is "too busy" to interview the people who will directly determine their success and profitability as a manager.

When you fix the hiring process and back it up with real training, turnover drops, customer satisfaction goes up, and customers get to deal with the same trusted faces in sales and service year after year.

At JDB TX LLC, we bring over 40 years of hands-on floor experience to bring real-world solutions to your dealership.

In Life and Business, Only One thing matters results!

From GMs and sales managers to service porters and vendors, performance is measured by outcomes—not sales pitches or dashboard graphs.

If half of what tech vendors promised over the last decade were true, every dealership in America would be selling thousands of units a month and running double-digit service drive absorption. Yet dealers keep paying massive monthly fees for advice from vendors who have never worked a deal, appraised a trade, or managed a busy service drive in their lives.

Here’s the reality of today's automotive business:

AI Will Never Replace Frontline People: Selling cars and building service trust requires human connection, negotiation, and real relationship building.
Data Overload Is Replacing Accountability: Relying on automated software metrics has become an easy excuse for poor management training and lack of operational accountability.
Computer-Driven HR vs. Real Talent: Algorithms can't measure grit, work ethic, or interpersonal communication. Interviews should be conducted by experienced leaders who actually know the business floor.

Stop paying for digital opinions when what your store needs is proven, hands-on leadership training from people who have spent decades on the front line.

At JDB TX LLC, we bring decades of hands-on experience to fix culture, train managers, and drive real profit.

Are you ready when your number is called?

Fans have debated for years whether the "clutch gene" is real and measurable.

One thing is certain: it can only be proven in those high-pressure moments when someone has to step up and be the difference maker.

Statisticians have run the numbers across sports and generally find that clutch performance tracks closely with overall performance. The better you are, the better you tend to be when the pressure is on. They say that someone who is great in the fourth quarter, when time is running out, is usually just great. Period.

I'd argue there is even more to it. Some people seem to make big plays, while others seem to make big excuses. Winning in the final moments takes mental toughness, control over anxiety, and comfort in the spotlight, and those qualities are hard to isolate statistically.

So the "clutch gene" is really a metaphor for consistency under pressure, not an isolated biological trait. In the big moment, it comes down to preparation and precise ex*****on.

The same is true in the game of life. Your hours of preparation show up on "the field" when it matters. Great decisions come from a great number of reps when no one is watching.

Michael Jordan has said the answer to pressure is to build your fundamentals and repeat them until you can handle whatever happens when the game breaks down.

In life, personal discipline makes all the difference when we work hard, think correctly, and act respectfully with intention and clear focus. Excuses have never won games, and they never win in business or in life either.

When crunch time comes, you are either ready or you are not.

Real preparation sets the stage for real success.

A lot of talk about culture in automotive dealerships. I have seen some real positives in thinking and still too many old school signs that sell a fairy tale to the customer of what the company really is for a lot of customers. Signs and slogans are not culture I promise you! Leadership is what sets its tone.

Real Culture Isn't a Slogan on a Wall — It's How You Empower Your Team Every Day.

In the automotive business, good employees are hard to find and far too easy to lose. When turnover hits, many dealerships try to fix it with perk packages or motivational signs. But real culture isn't a saying on a poster—it's the system of support, training, and trust you build on the floor.

True culture means:
Empowering Managers & Staff: Giving your team the proper tools, ongoing training, and confidence to reach their full potential.
Investing in Growth: Employees stay when they see a clear path forward and feel valued by leadership.
Building Sustainable Systems: When training replaces frustration, retention goes up and hiring costs go down.

At JDB TX LLC, we don't just talk about culture—we help dealerships transform frontline leadership and retain top talent to drive long-term profit.

As people love to say I’m a car guy or how great they are being such, I was taught that I was a business man that happened to have parts, service and vehicles to sell to run a business. Each with its own inventory to sell to generate a profit.
Most times I go into dealerships as the new GM, COO or whatever consulting role, I see most have not been trained nor taught the art of the game! Which is a business to run and each manager should know exactly how do that, not just go sell cars or service. That’s what we teach, train and show when you hire JDB consulting. We operate with passion, but live by the numbers. Decades of building monster businesses that happen be automotive.

Customers are the Lifeblood of Any Business. Not fancy buildings or bad leadership or training. So Why Has Automotive Service Culture Slipped?

It’s disappointing to see how the service drive culture has shifted in recent years. Customers are the most valuable asset any dealership has, yet too many stores treat the drive as an assembly line rather than a relationship builder.

Here’s what high-performing, customer-centric service drives are doing differently:

Active Leadership on the Drive: Service writers and managers should be out on the drive every day, opening doors, greeting customers, and setting a welcoming tone.
Selling at the Vehicle: Meeting the customer at their vehicle creates immediate rapport and sets the stage for trust.
Tech-Driven Transparency: Using vehicle history and mobile tablets right at the vehicle helps service advisors show and prove value, building mandatory trust from minute one.

At JDB TX LLC, we don't just point out problems—we change culture on the frontline to drive real profit.

So I have a question and it’s very specific to dealers that still do super sales or staffed event sales.
WHY? Now this is no disrespect to my friends that own or operate these types events companies . But those sales are already in your market first of all. Second how many of those customers that buy during these events return to buy again after getting their head knock off for monster grosses. See I have been both sides, went in as a consultant for a group of 21 stores did the every month every store. Once I convinced the dealer and CEO the stores can make more money without these type events and proved it, things began to change. Leadership changes, sales structure, lead handling everything was broken as everyone waited on a sale to make a month. Rather than make a month everyday with the right processes, management training and culture. That dealer and CEO hired me full time as VP of operations and profits soared! Turnover down over 70%.
