Not every drivability issue is a transmission problem.

This customer was convinced the transmission was failing because of how the vehicle was driving. After a proper diagnosis, the transmission wasn’t the problem at all.

The real culprit? A severely clogged air filter caused the engine to run rich, which affected the oxygen sensor readings and led to poor performance that felt like a transmission issue.

A simple maintenance item turned into a major drivability concern—but catching it early saved the customer from unnecessary transmission repairs.

No-starts usually have a chain reaction — not just a single failed part.

On this Ford Mustang, the customer had a no-start and a dead battery. Testing showed the battery was completely drained, but the root cause was a failing alternator that was shorting internally.

Heat testing showed the engine around 110°F, while the alternator was spiking up to 269°F — a clear sign of internal electrical failure and excessive resistance. That internal short not only stopped proper charging, it also overworked the system and ultimately damaged the battery as well.

Replaced the alternator and battery, restored proper charging output, and verified the system is now operating within spec.

Another reminder: when one part fails in the charging system, it can take others with it.

Today we performed a combustion gas leak test to check for exhaust gases in the cooling system — one of the best ways to help diagnose possible head gasket issues 🧪🚗💨
