Back in the lawless early 1990s, general motors gave us the concept for the 1991 ASC McLaren Chevrolet Lumina Z34 "El Camino." It was a time of extremely long names for cars and ASC McLaren were pumping out chopped topped and high performance variances of ordinary grocery getters. They are responsible for the ASC McLaren Pontiac Turbo Grand Prix, The McLaren Mercury Capri 5.0 convertible, the ASC Porsche 944 S2 Cabriolet, and of course, the Buick GNX.
But we never got the Lumina with a truck bed. There was a one-of-one fully functional concept and a couple attempts at recreating it, but nothing we could go and buy from the dealer. In fact, we never got any W body car (Lumina, Monte Carlo, Impala, Grand Prix, Regal) with a truck bed. I find this surprising because if you squint, c**k your head to the side a little, and hit yourself in the face with a hammer a couple times, you can clearly see that the lines of the body work just beg for a truck bed. Add in the fact that many W body cars came from the factory with one of the most capable engines ever produced (the 3800 series II/III) and many of those came from the factory with a supercharger. On top of that, aftermarket support is readily available and incredibly cheap. Parts are a dime a dozen because they put that engine in just about everything, from the Camaro to the Buick Park Ave.
So once again, Powdrell Powersports is here to bring you the car that nobody ever asked for. Like no one. Not a soul. I've begun the design phase to bring you the 2004 Chevy El Campala SS.
The name is still in the brainstorming stage.
