"I just celebrated 11 years with Purcell, and I can't believe it's gone by so fast! My brother-in-law Scott Hernandez (he is our account manager at this location now) had started working here as a mechanic and he talked me into working at the store as well. I started in a service truck running service calls and they had me going all over Phoenix. I was eventually given the job of Boom Truck Tech and I really enjoyed it. I was having some trouble with the store manager at the time, and I was going to quit, but Barry talked me into staying and taking on the job with the BIG tires. I'm so glad I stayed! The big tires are so much easier to do, and I like it when I get to travel and see so many different areas of the state. I like going up north where it's a little cooler, and we get to see so many neat trucks and equipment. It's great! No two jobs are the same. People often ask how I do this job in the Phoenix heat, and I tell them I hardly notice it anymore. You just get out there and do it! Purcell has been a big part of my growth, and I really appreciate all the opportunities and the people I work with"

"I actually knew Bob Purcell long before I ever worked for Purcell Tire. Back in 1964, I worked at a gas station in De Soto, Missouri. At that time Purcell only had two stores; Washington, Mo and De Soto, Mo, and Bob would stop by this gas station every other night to fill up his one-ton truck.

In 1970, I bought my own truck and spent the next 15 years as an owner-operator. Those were some really good years. I was able to bring my family along sometimes, and we would turn a long haul into a little trip together. I had already put a million miles behind me before I did a run for Purcell in September 1985.

I came in just to do one trip to Denver and back for a driver who was out with an injury. The driver ended up not coming back, so they just had me keep running that route. Before I knew it, that became my route, and one trip turned into a career that’s lasted more than 40 years.

I kept my own truck parked in my yard for about two years after I started at Purcell. I guess part of me wasn’t ready to let it go. But after a while, I realized I knew where I wanted to be, so I sold it.

Not long after that, Walter Flatbush, who had been here for many years, asked me if I thought I could start running the Salt Lake City route. I told him, “That’s a piece of cake,” because I had already been driving routes to California and Ohio for years. I ran Salt Lake for about seven years.

When Purcell acquired Western States in 1992, my schedule changed. I’d run Salt Lake one week and Phoenix the next. Eventually they started sending me to California, and that’s been my regular route ever since, about 20 years now. I still drive that route at least every other week.

About 10 years ago, Purcell recognized me with a four-million-mile award. If I haven’t already hit five million miles, I’m getting pretty close.

Looking back, it’s hard to believe that filling in for a single Denver run turned into more than four decades on the road with Purcell Tire and nearly five million miles behind the wheel.

The trucks have been really good to me, and Purcell Tire has been especially good to me."

"I joined Purcell Tire in August 2024 when Jack's Tire & Oil became part of the Purcell family. To say the transition was challenging would be an understatement. We were moving into a new building, learning new systems, bringing two teams together, and trying to continue taking care of customers while everything around us was changing. If you were part of it, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Then, on the very day we started in the Purcell building, our Jack's family lost one of our coworkers. It was a heartbreaking reminder that life doesn't stop just because business has to keep moving. Looking back, what stands out isn't all the challenges. It's the people. Throughout that entire process, people across Purcell stepped in to help. Whether it was answering questions, helping us learn new systems, brainstorming solutions, or simply checking in to see how we were doing, we were never left to figure it out alone. Every time we hit another obstacle, someone was willing to help us work through it. That experience shaped the way I lead today. As a Store Manager, I try to create the same kind of environment. We all have difficult days, unexpected problems, and moments when the answer isn't obvious. I've learned that the best solutions always come from people working together and being open-minded and willing to help each other succeed. After everything we've been through, I'm proud to be part of Purcell Tire. Ninety years isn't built on tires alone. It's built on people who care about one another, step up when they're needed, and keep moving forward together. Congratulations to everyone who has been part of the first 90 years. I'm grateful to be part of the story and look forward to helping write the next chapter."

"I was born and raised 10 minutes down the road from Purcell Tire, located in Potosi MO. I never knew the plant existed let alone the office. Now, as a 20-year veteran of Purcell Tire, I know how much Purcell Tire has to offer, from the jobs they bring to our small community to all of the love and support they have for all local schools and organizations! One of my favorite memories since working here was the employee picnic where our family was invited to attend. Neighboring Purcell locations were invited also; it was great to see everyone come together and celebrate. Bob and Juanita have treated me like family from day one! Cheers to 90 years and many more."

"I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management in 2007 and began looking for local opportunities. My uncle, a recent retiree from the Doe Run Company, suggested I reach out to Purcell Tire. His interactions with many Purcell employees over the years left him with the impression that Purcell Tire was a great company to work for. I dropped off my resume and was hired one week later as a Benefits Specialist. The company gave me room to grow and exposed me very quickly to the parts of the business most never think about.
I was promoted into a management position a few years later after I earned a Master's Degree in HR Management and an MBA, but the on-the-job education I received along the way was far more valuable. Bob & Juanita may not have had a formal executive training program, but they certainly positioned me to be influenced by the right people and to be exposed to information and situations that prepared me to be the future decision maker for employee- related matters. In my role, I have had a front seat to the multiple acquisitions that have grown our footprint across the map and entrenched us as a major player in the commercial tire market. When reflecting on the last 19 years, I have tremendous pride knowing Purcell Tire is growing and thriving in a market that has swallowed so many of our competitors. Our collective commitment to success, our resolve in making responsible, disciplined decisions, and our pursuit of the best talent in the tire industry have all paid dividends to every employee of this company. I was blessed to find a job with an organization with such a rich history and such phenomenal people, and I am proud to play a small part in the continuance of that legacy."

"What a delight to work with Purcell Tire and Rubber Company on their expansion project in the Washington County Industrial Park. This project was my very first in economic development. What stood out to me was the dynamic duo of Bob and Juanita at the groundbreaking event! Their story of commitment to our county, to their company, to each employee, to their family, and to each other was and is inspiring! As a woman who also works alongside her husband, it was refreshing to see their partnership and their joy. Our community has been so very blessed by the Purcell's, and their legacy will carry on. I will always remember meeting them that day, and I look forward to seeing the continued growth of Purcell Tire."

"I started at Purcell in July of 2023 as an Accounts Payable clerk while continuing my Accounting Degree. Now I get to do a mix of AP, accounting, and treasury. Working in the same office as my mom has been an experience but at least she feeds me lunch. I also enjoy being a part of Purcell Tire’s Community Team, getting to spend some time giving back to the community and representing our company."
- Alexia

"I started with Purcell in December of 2021 as a brand-new accountant after a major midlife career change. I had no idea what to expect, but I was immediately accepted into this big, wonderful family that is Purcell Tire. I have never worked with such a large group of people that genuinely care about and support one another. In the summer of 2023, my oldest daughter came to work at Purcell in the AP department. It’s a good feeling to know that your kids are also experiencing a great work environment. In 2024, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. There have been many hard days, but the support from my Purcell family has not wavered. I can’t imagine being anywhere else. I’m team Purcell for life."

“I started working for Purcell in April of 1997, and my first job was in the OTR Retread “Buzz Out” station.

I worked in the Retread Plant for a total of 9 years, but I started attending College classes for Finance towards the end of that time frame.

One day I was working on a Tire Repair, and I felt a tap on my shoulder, and as I turned around, I noticed it was Juanita Purcell. She said to me, “I heard you just graduated with a College Degree in Finance.” When I acknowledged that I had, she told me to follow her to her Office. I remember being covered in rubber dust walking to her Office, and just as nervous as can be.

She told me, “I have an opening in our Accounting Department, and I want you to take it.” I was a little caught off guard but immediately responded with a Yes. She said,” It’s going to take me a couple of weeks to get this all sorted out, but I am going to make it happen.”

True to her word, I transitioned from the Retread Plant to the Accounting Department in just a few short weeks, and the rest is History.

Bob and Juanita were always so Proud to tell the story of my start in the Plant and how I was able to expand my Career with Purcell. They were my biggest supporters as I went back to College to earn a second bachelor’s degree, and as I studied for the CPA Exam. Never would I have imagined that I would end up the CFO of Purcell Tire the day I started in “Buzz Out” back in April of 1997. I am forever grateful for the faith they have shown in me and the opportunities they have given me over the years.”
