Yesterday was Captain Matt Steffen’s birthday. He primary works out of Port Mansfield & is a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain with over 14 years of boating experience.

Originally from Mondovi, Wisconsin, Matt built an impressive career guiding anglers across the country & competing in major walleye tournaments before making Port Mansfield his home in 2020. Since arriving on the Texas coast, he has become a skilled airboat operator, guide, and a valuable part of our team.

Matt is passionate about fishing, sharing his love of the outdoors, & spending time with his son and daughter.

For Clay, life on the water isn’t just a career—it’s a way of life. He has been on the water since he could crawl & has spent countless hours fishing since he was old enough to hold a fishing pole. His passion, knowledge, & respect for the water were instilled in him at an early age and continue to guide him every day.

Clay comes from a family deeply rooted in the maritime community. His father was a well-known & respected fishing legend whose dedication to life on the water left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Today, Clay proudly carries on that legacy.

While his path has led him into the marine towing and salvage industry, he continues to work on the same waters his father once did—serving the boating community. As we often say, it’s the same office, just a different job.
