Global Solidarity Demonstrated as Cameroon's 'Ghost Town' Strike Begins π³π³π³
A coordinated international response is poised to challenge Cameroon's long-standing regime as a massive three-day national 'Ghost Town' strike commences within the country tomorrow.
In a show of solidarity with citizens participating in the nationwide shutdown called by Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the Cameroonian diaspora in the UK is organizing a major demonstration: The UK is organizing one tomorrow, Monday, November 3rd, at 2:00 PM at the Cameroon High Commission, 84 Holland Park, London W11 3SB.
The planned London action follows a weekend of widespread and vocal protests across the United States and France, where Cameroonian communities staged demonstrations in major cities, including Washington D.C. and Paris, to protest the disputed election results and the violent repression of dissent.
The Ghost Town is a non-violent civil disobedience tactic urging Cameroonians to stay home, paralyze the economy to protest the widely disputed re-election of 92-year-old Paul Biya and his 43-year rule.
The London protest, according to the organizers, aims to pressure the international community, particularly the UK government, to take a stronger stance against the reported electoral fraud and human rights abuses in Cameroon.
