The little 1500 in this 67 Ghia purrs so nicely, I didn't want to shut it off. 😊

I'll take one of each please! Actually, you can keep the Type 3s. 😜

Another VW first for me today. 45 years of working on these cars, and I don't recall ever encountering this combination. The car is a 1975 Beetle 111 sedan. Who can spot it, and have you ever seen one?

This was the reason for the overheated 1600 single port. Apparently, someone (previous to the current owner) tried to put the wrong fan in the wrong fan shroud, which wouldn't fit. So instead of getting the correct fan, they just bashed open the shroud to make it fit. Well, the air found the path of least resistance, which was not going down over the cylinders and heads, and instead just recirculated around the fan opening. This engine got REALLY hot.

I'm building up a new 1600 single port for a 67 Bus this week. The old engine got so hot the crank journals were purple!...

I'm building up a new 1600 single port for a 67 Bus this week. The old engine got so hot the crank journals were purple! I don't trust reusing anything including the case. This one is all brand new! New Autolinea case, new crank, cam, pistons, cylinders, rods, and heads. 👍

Fun/interesting VW Beetle fun fact; Most people probably know, that for the 1961 model year, the gas tank was changed from the previous narrow rectangular upright style with the large filler on the passenger side and the reserve foot lever, to the lager flat square style with the smaller filler on the drivers side. But what you may not know (and I just learned this) for a short time (maybe only six months, before a gas gauge was standard equipment) that even though the dashboard had the cut-out (behind the grill) for the square gas gauge to the right of the speedo, they kept the reserve foot lever, and the new style tank had a cover over the hole where the gauge sending unit would eventually go. I have been working on VW's for 45 years, and until yesterday I had never seen one of these capped tanks! I love these little cars. 😊
