Don’t ignore noises when you brake.
If your brakes are squeaking, grinding, scraping, or clunking, your car is trying to tell you something. Waiting usually does not make it cheaper.
Here are a few salty reasons why brake noise gets worse around here:
Road salt causes rust on rotors, pads, backing plates, caliper brackets, and hardware.
Salt and moisture can make pads seize in the brackets, wear unevenly, and grind into the rotor.
Rust can lock up caliper slides, causing one pad to wear out much faster than the other.
What starts as a simple brake service can turn into added cost fast: pads only can become pads and rotors, then caliper brackets and hardware, and sometimes even seized calipers.
If your brakes are making noise, get them checked sooner rather than later.
