I am very happy and proud to announce the upcoming release of my latest book, entitled, "1960-74 Pontiac Performance: The Era of Super Duty, H.O., and Ram Air Drag & Muscle Cars." It has been a two-year labor of love that includes a wealth of new research and approximately 100 unpublished photos from the 1960s and 1970s. This book tells the inside story of the era, told by many of the greats of the era, both living and deceased. New research includes the whereabouts of many surviving cars and the matching of cars to VINs. The book is being published by CarTech Books and will be out in October. I am personally taking pre-orders now and all books ordered here will be autographed by me. I can include a special message if you wish. Domestic shipping is included in the price and they will be sent out in late October or early November, depending how quickly they ship.

From the inner flap: Pontiac’s transformation from a nearly dead GM division to the third largest domestic carmaker took the nameplate into new and uncharted territory. Starting with high-performance street cars in the late 1950s, and moving into the specialized world of factory-built racecars, their commitment to racing saw the Wide Track Division completely dominate in the venues they competed in, which translated into new sales records. “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” became their mantra and the strategy worked almost too well…

After GM withdrew from racing in 1963, Pontiac turned their energies to producing high-performance street cars that were reasonably priced and returned a tremendous amount of style and performance into the mix. Indeed, they fired the warning shot that ignited a new market segment, the muscle car.

This is the story of the executives, engineers, racecar builders and drivers who made Pontiac the nearly supernatural force that it was during the 1960s and early 1970s. It’s a fascinating story of engineering excellence pitted against corporate and government forces who stood in the way of their mission statement.

Happy birthday to the love of my life, Ann Caster Haines. We've been together for almost 18 years and it just keeps getting better. It's also fitting that I just finished writing my fourth book today and it's all due to her love and support. Annie, I love you with all my heart!

Hi everyone, this is Don Keefe, the President of the National Impala Association and I want to let everyone know that since the latest issue of Impala News went out late because of our recent move, we're waiving the late registration fee for our 2022 convention in Spearfish, South Dakota. Additionally, we will be refunding those who paid it already. We didn't think that it was fair to charge people for a delay we caused, so we hope that will answer your questions. Thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon!

We are thrilled to announce that a very familiar face will be returning as part of the Poncho Perfection Magazine team at the 2022 Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals. Executive Editor Christopher Phillip will be joining us as the event photographer for the magazine.

Many of you know Chris from his videos for Dream Giveaway but before that he was the editor of the late great High Performance Pontiac Magazine and was a common sight at the Nationals, as well as the HPP “Pavement Pounder Shootouts.”

“It’s great to be coming back to visit with my friends at the Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals,” Chris said. “I’ll be shooting photos on both the race and show sides and will also have opportunities to meet and greet at the Poncho Perfection tent. He added, “We will see you soon!”

As well as Chris Phillip, Poncho Perfection columnist Stan Rarden is scheduled to attend the event and of course, managing Editor Ann Haines and Founding Editor-in-Chief Don Keefe will also be there. For more information on the Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals, visit pontiacnationals.com. We hope to see you there!
