Today's not just any day for cat lovers everywhere, it's International Cat Day 🐱🎉

International Cat Day was first started in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare to raise awareness about cat welfare, especially strays and abandoned cats. Since 2020, it's been run by International Cat Care, a UK organization that's been doing this work since 1958.

August 8 was picked because it lines up with cats' peak breeding season in the northern hemisphere, so it's also a reminder about why spaying matters. Now it's celebrated in over 40 countries and pushes for adoption and better protection for street cats.
