Most boats handle best when running parallel with their at-rest waterline. Accordingly, outboards and sterndrives feature a power trim adjustment that allows you to change the engine's angle of thrust by tilting it "out" or "in" in relation to the transom in order to maintain the proper running angle.

🔧 Stop Deck Leaks Before They Start: Proper Hardware Rebedding
If you’re mounting hardware through a cored deck and not doing this, you’re risking serious long-term damage.

At Puget Sound Refit, we take the time to remove core material, fill the area with thickened epoxy, and then redrill the holes before installing any bolts or screws. Why? Because it seals off the core from water intrusion — one of the biggest causes of deck rot, delamination, and soft spots.

This process takes a little extra time, but it’s how you build things to last.

Whether it’s a cracked hull, a delaminated deck, or damage from hardware removal, a proper fiberglass repair starts with the right taper—typically a 12:1 bevel. That means for every 1mm of hull thickness, we sand a 12mm slope around the damaged area.

It creates strong adhesion for new layers of glass

It spreads out the load and prevents future cracks

It ensures the repair is flush, fair, and structurally sound
