Our client brought us his second vehicle after loving the ceramic coating on his first one. If you care about long term protection, dm us to learn more.

Ceramic coating doesn’t fix swirls or scratches, it locks in the condition the paint is already in. That’s why proper prep and paint correction matter before applying the coating. For this Porsche, we did a one-step paint correction to improve the gloss and prepare the paint before locking it in with a 5-year ceramic coating.

This Porsche came in for a one-step paint correction and 5-year ceramic coating to bring back the gloss, remove light swirls, and lock in long-term protection. Now the paint has deeper shine, easier maintenance, and a slick protected finish that’s built to last.

Getting your first few clients is hard. Getting clients who happily pay your premium rates is even harder. Here is the exact blueprint of the 10 things that brought me the most high-paying clients:

1. Niche down your marketing: Stop advertising “car washing.” Advertise “Ceramic Coatings for new car owners” or “Odor Removal for Minivans.” Speak directly to a specific problem.
2. Partner with local businesses: Go to high-end barbershops, gyms, or real estate offices. Offer the owner a free detail in exchange for leaving your cards in their lobby.
3. The ‘Neighbor Drop’: When you finish detailing a car in a nice neighborhood, put a flyer on the doors of the 5 houses to the left and 5 to the right. “We just detailed your neighbor John’s car…”
4. Upsell with education, not pressure: Don’t just say “you need a ceramic coating.” Explain how it will protect their investment from bird droppings and make washing it themselves 10x easier.
5. Professionalism wins: Show up on time, wear a branded shirt (even if it’s just a polo with your logo), and send professional invoices. People pay more for a professional experience.
6. Leverage local Nextdoor neighbors: Don’t spam your ads. Answer questions. When someone asks “how do I get dog hair out of my car,” give them a detailed answer. They will usually just hire you to do it.
7. Create a referral program: Give your current best clients a reason to talk about you. “Refer a friend and you both get $50 off your next service.”
8. Focus on the interior: Most people spend 90% of their time inside the car. If you make the interior look and smell brand new, they will be clients for life.
9. Follow up a couple weeks later: Send a simple text: “Hey [Name], just checking in to see how the car is looking! Let me know if you need anything.” This level of care is rare and guarantees repeat business.
10. Show your face: People buy from people. Post videos of yourself talking about your process, your struggles, and your wins. Build a personal brand, not just a detailing page.

Tag a detailer who needs to see this! 🤝

I might be shooting myself in the foot here, but I want your car to stay clean longer. If you do these 10 things, you won’t need to call me nearly as often (but I’m always here when you do!):

1. Keep a dedicated trash bag in the car: It sounds simple, but 90% of the messes I clean up are just accumulated wrappers and receipts. Empty it every time you get gas.
2. Never use dish soap to wash your car: Dawn dish soap strips away all the wax and protection on your paint, leaving it vulnerable to the sun and elements. Use a dedicated pH-neutral car soap.
3. Knock your shoes off: Before swinging your legs into the car, knock your shoes together outside the door. This prevents 50% of the dirt from ever hitting your floor mats.
4. Wipe spills immediately: Keep a small microfiber towel and a bottle of interior detailer in your glovebox. A coffee spill is easy to clean in the first 5 minutes; it’s a nightmare 5 days later.
5. Avoid the automatic brush washes: Those spinning brushes are basically slapping your car with the dirt from the 100 cars before you. They cause micro-scratches (swirl marks) that dull your paint over time.
6. Use a sunshade: UV rays are the enemy of your dashboard and leather seats. A $15 sunshade will prevent cracking and fading over the years.
7. Don’t eat in the car (if you can help it): Crumbs find their way into crevices you didn’t even know existed. If you must eat, lean over the center console, not the seat!
8. Apply a spray wax every month: You don’t need a professional ceramic coating to have protection. A simple spray wax applied after a wash takes 10 minutes and protects your clear coat.
9. Clean your wiper blades: When you wash your car, wipe down the rubber on your wiper blades with glass cleaner. It stops them from streaking and extends their life.
10. Get all-weather floor mats: WeatherTech or similar rubber mats are the best investment you can make for your interior. They catch everything and take 2 minutes to hose off.

Which one of these are you guilty of? Be honest in the comments! 😂

If I started my detailing business over, here are 10 things I’d do sooner:

Post content consistently from day one
1. I waited too long for perfect content. I should’ve just posted the work, process, and results. Content builds trust before people message you.
Ask for reviews after every job
2. Reviews make everything easier. More trust, replies, and bookings. Newer detailers underestimate how much social proof matters.
Charge based on value, not insecurity
3. Underpricing attracts the wrong customers and burns you out. The right clients care about quality, convenience, and trust over the cheapest price.
Focus on higher-ticket services sooner
4. Paint correction and ceramic coatings change your business. Basic details help, but higher-value services give you room to grow.
Learn sales, not just detailing
5. Many detailers are good at work but bad at closing. Learning to ask the right questions, explain value, and guide a lead matters as much as your skills.
Build a simple system for leads
6. Leads go cold fast. With a better system for follow-up, booking links, and organized responses, I would’ve closed more jobs earlier.
Make my branding cleaner
7. People judge fast. A clean logo, strong page, clear service list, and professional communication make you look legit right away.
Invest in better setup and efficiency
8. A better van setup, organization, and workflow save time daily. Small inefficiencies add up fast.
Track my numbers earlier
9. You can’t grow what you don’t track. I should’ve paid attention to what services made the most money, what ads worked, and where best clients came from.
Stay patient and keep improving
10. Growth takes longer than you think. But if you stay consistent, improve your work, and learn from mistakes, you’re in a great position.

Many want to go full-time in detailing, but miss key things that get them there faster.
Learn the skill, but also learn the business.

If your goal is to go full-time in detailing, here are 10 things I wish I understood sooner:

1. Being good at detailing is not enough
You also need to know how to market, sell, follow up, and keep customers coming back.
2. Slow days will happen
You need to be mentally ready for inconsistency, especially in the beginning.
3. Cash flow matters more than hype
A lot of people focus on looking successful instead of building a business that actually makes money consistently.
4. Your reputation becomes everything: One great review helps. One bad experience can hurt. Customer service matters a lot.
5. You need to reinvest into the business: Better tools, better setup, better branding, better ads — growth usually takes reinvestment.
6. Higher-paying clients usually want confidence, not just low prices:
The way you present yourself affects who you attract.
7. Time management matters a lot more: When you go full-time, wasted days hurt more. Your schedule needs structure.
8. You need repeatable systems:
Without systems, everything depends on your memory and energy. That gets exhausting fast.
9. Content is part of the business now: Whether people like it or not, being visible online helps. You don’t need perfect content, just consistent proof.
10. Patience and discipline matter more than motivation: Some days you won’t feel like doing it. The people who win are usually the ones who stay consistent anyway.

Going full-time sounds exciting, but it gets real fast.
The goal isn’t just to be busy, it’s to build something stable, profitable, and worth keeping.

04/19/2026

If I started my detailing business over today, here are 10 things I’d do differently to go full-time and get a van faster. Save this!

1. Stop buying every chemical: You only need a good APC, interior cleaner, wheel cleaner, glass cleaner, and quality soap. Dilution ratios save thousands.
2. Your first clients are in your phone: Don’t waste money on ads. Text 50 contacts offering a discount for a Google review and before/after photos.
3. Take better photos: A 50/50 shot of a dirty seat being cleaned sells the service. Wipe your lens, find good lighting, and show the transformation.
4. Price for profit, not to be cheapest: Competing on price attracts bad clients. Price based on time and quality. Booked out 2 weeks? Raise prices 15%.
5. Invest in good equipment early: Cheap gear works for a bit, but costs more long-term when you have to keep replacing it.
6. Build a Google My Business page immediately: It’s free real estate. Post before/afters weekly and ask every client for a review. This is how strangers find you.
7. Create a maintenance program: Don’t just detail a car once. Offer a discounted monthly wash after a full detail for predictable, recurring revenue.
8. Learn to say no: Not every dirty car is worth your time. If it’s a biohazard or the client haggles before you start, walk away. Your time is valuable.
9. Master one polishing step first: Don’t offer multi-stage correction right away. Master a one-step polish and wax (AIO). It satisfies 90% of customers and is profitable.
10. Consistency beats talent: Posting once a month won’t work. Post your work daily. Show the process, struggles, and wins. People buy from people they trust.
