S1 Hoonitron

Ken Block has released his first Gymkhana video with an electric car — and this time, the vehicle is almost as important as the hooning. The "Electrikhana" sees Block drift around Las Vegas landmarks in a one-of-a-kind Audi S1 Hoonitron. It borrows design cues from the well-known Sport Quattro S1 while using a dual-motor system (with an 800V architecture), a carbon fiber shell and FIA-grade safety measures. Think of it as a souped-up cousin to the E-tron GT. Audi is shy on the exact performance figures, but it's safe to say they're enough for donuts around hotel lobbies and boxing rings.

It brings Ken Block's signature antics to Sin City, including drifts in tight spaces and plenty of tire smoke. The lower center of gravity inherent to EVs certainly hasn't affected the handling, as Block has no problems maneuvering in some tricky situations. However, what's most notable is what you don't hear — the switch to an EV means the noises are largely limited to tire squeal and the S1 Hoonitron's strange motor whine.

However, it represents a milestone for the cultural acceptance of EVs. Where electric cars used to be associated mainly with eco-conscious drivers, they're quickly becoming the machines of choice for performance-minded enthusiasts thanks to their instant torque and supercar-beating low-end acceleration. Block's Electrikhana helps show that EVs are viable for twists and turns, too.

2023 Audi RS5 competition package

Of the many memorable engine notes throughout history, Audi has offered up a couple of great bangers. The whoosh and warble of the turbo inline-five from the groundbreaking Quattro conjures up peak rally greatness and is a brand-defining classic. More recently, the first-generation RS5 thrummed to the palpable beat of a 4.2-liter V-8. Capable of spinning up to a dizzying 8250 rpm redline, its baritone scream created a l***y, lasting impression. But when the second-generation RS5 debuted for 2018, it lost not only its V-8 but also its attendant sonorous beauty. Although quicker than and technologically superior to the old 4.2-liter, the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 delivered its stouter punch with all the emotional engagement of Mark Zuckerberg testifying before Congress. Someone at Audi must have been listening to this deafening silence because the 2023 Audi RS5 Competition finally has something interesting to say.

In its quest to make some noise, Audi started by ditching nearly 18 pounds of sound insulation at the firewall to allow more of the natural engine sound to filter into the cabin. A new exhaust system helps to further uncork some combustive clamor. We suspect Audi has also turned up the digital enhancement, but at least now it's working with better source material.

No longer going about its duty with bland stoicism, this newly vociferous mill responds with an authoritative growl even at partial throttle. Throughout the rev range, the engine is now a much more willing accomplice, communicating its joy rather than concealing it.- caranddriver

Of course you can read the rest in the article, but one thing for sure Audi has raised the level with this RS5 and overall drive ability from factory is superb💪🤙🏼

R YES 3!

A four-wheel drive, techno-overload hot hatch that thinks it’s a super-saloon. And probably really annoyed that the Aston Martin DBX has it licked for the Biggest Grille At Speed Week award.

Ordinarily, the RS3’s trump card is its outrageous engine: a 2.5-litre rally-inspired five-cylinder powerhaus good for just shy of 400bhp. But for this generation, Audi actually bothered to make an effort with the handling. Fitting a ‘Torque-Splitter’ rear diff finally unlocked a sense of humour from an RS3 chassis.

"There’s a deeply impressive car here, buried under a landslide of data, adjustability, and the choice that it brings with it. Layers upon layers of individualisation, for every different surface, road and need. And while it searches for perfection, what the RS3 does is put the onus on the driver to pick the right combination. But when you do, it’s brilliant. A really good car on the right kind of wrong road."

The crew here loves our RS3’s along with our other platforms. 👍✌🏼🚗

We wanted to give a huge shout-out to for outstanding customer service. One of our members had to make a return and they were not only extremely concerned in making things right but provided a store credit for the trouble. Kenji took great care of him and earned some serious brand loyalty points in the process.

Here’s to all the fathers out there today!.. and ours!

the founder of the manufacturing giant which would eventually become Audi.

For one’s that know the history of this legend of the auto world, it is quite fascinating and we highly recommend a quick read if you can

Horch was born in Winningen, Rhenish Prussia. His initial trade was as a blacksmith, and then was educated at Hochschule Mittweida (Mittweida Technical College). After receiving a degree in engineering, he worked in shipbuilding. Horch worked for Karl Benz from 1896, before founding A. Horch & Co. in November 1899, in Ehrenfeld, Cologne, Germany.

Horch left Audi in 1920 and went to Berlin and took various jobs. He published his autobiography, I Built Cars (Ich Baute Autos) in 1937. He also served on the board of Auto Union, the successor to Audi Automobilwerke GmbH he founded. He was an honorary citizen of Zwickau and had a street named for his Audi cars in both Zwickau and his birthplace Winningen. He was made an honorary professor at Braunschweig University of Technology. Well that’s a little bit of facts about Audis father.

So today why not take your dad out for a spin etc and give it up to August too.. oh and after yesterdays post of the DTM results .. Bmw can send their Daddy’s Day card to Ingolstadt…. 😜

Imola DTM: Audi's Rast claims first pole since return

Rene Rast became the fifth different polesitter from as many DTM races in 2022 as he snatched top spot with a late effort for the championship's first race at Imola.

It was the best qualifying showing so far from the three-time DTM champion on his return to the series, having sat out the 2021 season, with Abt Audi driver beating Team Rosberg Audi rival Nico Muller to pole by 0.188s.

Taking a ride back in time!

Audi as we know it was formed in the 1960s, though it traces its roots to the late 19th century. Volkswagen began buying into a German carmaker named Auto Union in 1964, largely because it needed additional production capacity to build the Beetle and the deal included a then-recent factory in Ingolstadt. The idea was never to let the firm stand on its own; DKW, one of the companies that made up Auto Union, was phased out and replaced by Audi, but the company was strictly forbidden from designing new cars. Audi assembled a small team to secretly design the original 100 and showed it to Volkswagen boss Heinz Nordhoff when it was finished. He reluctantly approved the car. In our market, where the 80 was called the Fox. Over 1 million units of the first-generation 80 were built by the time production ended in 1978, a number that exceeded expectations and convinced executives once and for all that Audi had a role to play in the Volkswagen Group. On a secondary level, the 80 took Audi into a new segment that was almost non-existent in the early 1970s. The first-generation 80 was replaced by a second-generation model in 1978 (it was called 4000 in America), the third-generation 80 arrived in 1986, and the fourth-generation car made its debut in 1991. The last 80 was built in 1995; by that point, the original A4 had been launched to take the torch, signaling the start of a new chapter in the firm's history.
We also have the 80 line to thank for some of Audi's greatest hits: The rally-winning Quattro was a heavily-modified evolution of the Coupe GT, which was based on the second-generation 80's B2 platform, and the RS2 super-wagon was related to the Avant variant of the fourth-generation 80. And, finally, we have the 80 to thank for the Passat: The first-generation model released in 1973 was very similar to the 80. Our past.. shaped our future!

Tis the season!

As if we all don’t clean our cars enough already. Many of us unless we have a bubble around our car or a garage, find ourselves grabbing a quick hose off or wash before setting out for our day. Of course that is short lived for a bit until our cars again take on mother natures wrap she lovingly provides to us all during this time. Now, as far as the crew here, we love our Black cars .. when they are black and not green or yellow.. not of course there is anything wrong with those colors… when that is the choice of paint or wrap. This all does not exactly touch on the problem causes to those that suffer allergies of tree pollens at this time.

So how much longer do we have to all deal with the effects of this? Here's a general timeline of common pollen seasons: March through June is tree pollen season. June, July, and August is usually when the grass pollens are high, sometimes into September in a warm year. August through the end of October is w**d pollen season - it takes a hard freeze to kill off the w**ds.

So all, this too shall pass as we get thru the last few wks of tree pollen, remember your Claritin and also to change those cabin filters! Hose off and roll off all!

RS3’s a company

As cars get bigger and bigger the Audi RS3 continues to remain fairly compact and incredibly punchy on paper. Under the hood is Audi’s glorious sounding turbocharged 2.5L five-cylinder engine that’s good for 401 hp (299 kW/406 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque allowing it to hit 62mph (100 km/h) in about 3.8 seconds.

Audi has already released quite a bit of information about its latest high-po small sedan that it hopes will be a giant killer of some ilk. When it arrives in showrooms this summer, it’ll start at $59,095 before other factors like dealer markups are considered and it’ll only come in a single trim. Of course, a number of options are available but most of them are either black or green.

For instance, a Black Optic package costs $750 and adds black Y-spoke wheels, a black roof, and black badging. Customers can choose from three stitching colors including black, green, and red. If you want more color in the cabin you had better hope you love the green itself though.

A special “RS design package green” costs $1,500 and adds a bunch of Micrommata Green into the cabin on the seats, the seat belts, the air vents, and more. The most expensive option is a $5,500 Dynamic plus package which adds ceramic front brakes, a 180-mph speed limiter (up from 155), and a carbon engine cover.

What’s your choice?..
