I call this “broke friend” taxation.
I didn't know how best to title this scenario.
Bitter truth is: Your broke friends are the most expensive thing you own.
You: “Let’s hang out.”
Them: “I’m a bit short, can you cover me?”
You: Pay for food, transport, vibes.
Next week: Same script.
You: “I started a business.”
Them: “Support your own! Give me discount… actually make it free.”
You: Do the work, get paid in “God bless you.”
Next month: They post “support small businesses” but never supported yours.
You: “I’m trying to save.”
Them: “You don too like money. We only live once.”
You: Spend your savings proving you’re not “stingy.”
Next year: You’re both still broke, but you funded it.
Listen:
Poverty is contagious.
Mindsets are transferable.
And “loyalty to broke friends” is why your account stays broke.
You don’t hate them. You just can’t afford them.
You don’t need new friends. You need new conversations.
You don’t need to cut them off. You need to cut off the subsidy.
If your circle is costing you your future, your future will cost you your circle. Choose.
React with 💎 if you’ve outgrown your “village people” friends.
Tag someone you’re growing with, not growing broke with.
