Yesterday evening Nesbit Fire Department responded to assist Walls Fire Department with an apartment fire. One apartment building was well involved with fire upon arrival.

In addition to the heavy fire load, outdoor temperatures reaching triple digits yesterday further complicated fire suppression efforts. This fire required a response from many fire departments across the county, including nearly all of Nesbit Fire Departments resources. Engine 7, Engine 17, Rescue 7, Squad 7, Squad 17, and many personnel responded from Nesbit.

Responding to calls in heat like this has nearly depleted our supply of drinking water for our volunteer firefighters. Donations of drinking water and sports drinks are always appreciated. Yesterday evening Nesbit Fire Department was dispatched to two separate rollover accidents with entrapment. The accidents were dispatched approximately 6 hours apart.

For both incidents NFD utilized our recently purchased battery powered Amkus rescue tools. These tools were a significant financial investment for our department, but the benefits were evident last night as our team utilized this new equipment on two separate extrications.

Over a span of four days, Nesbit Fire department has responded to four large brush fires. All of these fires started as controlled burns that spread out of control.

Both of our brush trucks - Squad 7 and Squad 17, responded to all of the fires. Tanker 7 also responded to a fire last night to provide water.
