This dune buggy is said to have been built in Southern California during the late 1960s with black pinstriping applied to its silver metal-flake finish by custom car builder and designer Dick Dean. The car spent approximately four decades in storage in Northern California before being acquired by the seller in 2022. Subsequent work involved replacing the carburetor, piston rings, and gaskets for the 1,200cc flat-four in addition to the throwout bearing and clutch cable for the four-speed manual transaxle. Components for the fuel, steering, and braking systems were also replaced along with the battery and generator. The fiberglass body is paired with a modified 1957 Volkswagen Beetle chassis, and features include an amber-tinted windshield, a chopped roll bar, a chrome fan belt guard, 1965 Chevrolet Impala taillights, and a mixed set of staggered-width 15″ wheels from Ansen and US Mags. This dune buggy is now offered again with a yellow-on-black California license plate, a copy of Dune Buggies and Hot VWs magazine featuring the car, and a clean California title listing the car as a 1957 Volkswagen SDBG.
