From an idea to a little CAD work. Then we printed off a pice of paper to see what it looked like in real life. After we were happy with that it went to the laser then the mill. Now we have a cool piece ready to weld on. No it’s not going to help performance of this buggy at all but man these details keep them looking nice. We have really went the extra mile to make these newer Rocketship chassis be all they can be. This little detail just gives someone a glimpse of the time and effort we are putting into everything in the shop right now. We are in the middle of some exciting times right now with the project line up for 2026. We are so excited to keep putting our all in to every piece of every build.

Wide Open Design transformed a 4-door Jeep JK into a true off-road supercar. Starting with the Jeep body, we designed and built a full tube chassis and cage as the foundation, combining the best aspects of a high-horsepower rock crawling buggy with the comfort and style of a Jeep.
The interior features GPS navigation, LCD gauges, AC, heated custom seats, and plenty of room for the driver, passenger, storage, and trail gear. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 427 cubic inch GM LT engine paired with a 4L80 transmission and Atlas transfer case, delivering the right blend of power, gearing, and reliability. Heavy-duty 1410 driveshafts, balanced for high speeds, transfer power to fully built Crane 14 bolt axles front and rear, fitted with 40-spline chromoly shafts and a big brake package for strength and confidence on the trail. The suspension is engineered with coil overs, bypass shocks, and air bump stops to soak up the harshest terrain, while 20-inch wheels and massive 42-inch tires provide the stance.
Every inch of the Jeep has been cleaned, painted, or polished for a finish that looks as good as it performs. This build represents what Wide Open Design delivers in a one-of-a-kind vehicle that can take on the most challenging terrain while still turning heads.

We have been having a fantastic time at King of the Hammers so far. We’ve got a great mix of racers and recreational wheelers in our camp which makes pre-running a blast. The rock laps are challenging this year to say the least. We’ve all been wheeling and wrenching hard to get back out on the rocks. If you see us around, be sure to say hello!

WOW! We had a great time running the Hammer trails with our Ohio friends.

What is your favorite trail at the Hammers?
