About LKN Driving School

We are long-time educators and our staff has taught students for over 60 years. We have and can work with all types of learners and all ages (teens, adult, mature). Our staff has taught over 800 students behind-the-wheel and 1000 students in the classroom. That would be over 5000 hours of behind-the-wheel training and 450 hours of classroom instruction! Our seven-day-a-w

eek schedule, beginning at 6 a.m., meets the needs of a busy family and works around practices, plays, recitals, jobs, and life.... We are local, so pick-up and drop-off service is offered to help ease the logistics and stress of behind-the-wheel instruction.

📣 Important update for NC homeschool families with teen drivers!

Beginning October 1, 2026, North Carolina will no longer require a Driving Eligibility Certificate (DEC) for teens to obtain a learner’s permit or driver’s license. The change was enacted by the NC General Assembly in Session Law 2026-46.

Until October 1, the current DEC requirements remain in effect. Families with a teen applying before that date should continue to follow the existing process through the Division of Non-Public Education.

Edit: Please note that this does not change the need to take driver's ed classes and do the driving portion. Your student will still need to go through all of the steps, but will no longer have to wait for the DEC to be sent from DNPE to prove that they are a student in good standing.

One of my favorite behind-the-wheel moments!
Take a minute (a little scratchy, sorry) to watch this. Frank did an outstanding job coaching with patience and encouragement as our student successfully navigated three traffic circles and then merged onto the highway. The smile on her face when she realized she had done it says it all!
