🔥🔥 THIS IS WHAT SEPARATES A TUNER FROM A TOONER. 🔥🔥
This ’87 FC RX-7 came to me after the previous tuner had already been through revision after revision trying to get the car sorted out.
Before I touched a single table, I asked the customer to send me a video of the car running. 📲
First thing I see…
🚨 90 kPa AT IDLE. 🚨
Immediately I’m asking — WHY THE HELL IS THIS THING IDLING AT 90 kPa?!
I’m not about to start smashing buttons 💻 and sending another revision trying to tune around something that clearly isn’t right mechanically.
So we started digging into the combination and what had actually been done to the engine.
💥 FOUND IT. 💥
The engine has adjustable rockers, and when the customer originally assembled everything, the valve lash had been set too tight. He had no idea it needed to be adjusted differently — but after multiple revisions, the previous tuner still never stopped to question why this thing was idling at 90 kPa. 🚩
🔧 Valve lash corrected.
📉 Vacuum came back.
💻 NOW we had something worth tuning.
Because you can send revision after revision, move fuel around, change timing, f**k with the VE table all day long…
💻 THE TUNE ISN’T GOING TO ADJUST THE FU***NG VALVES FOR YOU. 🔧😂🔥
Once the mechanical problem was corrected, I could actually get into the Terminator X remotely and dial the car in properly.
And that’s the best part…
🌎 I NEVER TOUCHED THE CAR.
The customer is on the other end of a laptop, but the data doesn’t lie. You just have to know what the hell you’re looking at. 👀💻
