There’s a lot more to detailing than just getting a vehicle clean.

At Auto Shine Detailing, a big part of what we do is restore what needs attention and preserve what’s already in good shape.

For some vehicles, that might mean working on years of swirl marks, oxidation, water spots and wear to bring back the gloss and clarity in the paint.

For a newer or well-kept vehicle, it can be the complete opposite. There may not be much that needs correcting, so the focus becomes keeping it that way.

That’s where proper cleaning, decontamination, polishing, paint correction and ceramic coatings all come into play. Every vehicle is different, and doing more isn’t always better.

We’d rather look at the vehicle first, see what it actually needs, and go from there. Sometimes that means correcting the paint. Sometimes it means a light polish and protection. Sometimes it just means maintaining what’s already there.

Restore what needs it. Preserve what doesn’t. Protect it moving forward.

To us, that’s what detailing is really about.

There’s a difference between cleaning a vehicle and actually detailing one.

At Auto Shine Detailing, the goal isn’t simply to make your vehicle look clean. It’s about preserving what’s still in good condition, reconditioning what can be improved, and safely correcting what can be corrected.

Modern vehicles can actually be more challenging to work on than older ones. Paint systems have changed, clear coat can be surprisingly thin, and interior materials, trim, plastics, and gloss-black surfaces can be much easier to damage than people realize.

That’s why the right result isn’t always about using the strongest chemical, the most aggressive compound, or chasing every last scratch.

It’s about knowing when to push a little further and when to stop.

Before doing correction or restoration work, we take the time to inspect the vehicle, evaluate the condition of the paint and materials, look for previous repairs or repainting, and talk with the customer about what they’re actually trying to accomplish.

Sometimes a vehicle needs a deeper correction. Sometimes a light polish is all it needs. And sometimes leaving a defect alone is better than unnecessarily removing more clear coat just to chase perfection.

Good detailing should improve the vehicle without compromising it.

That takes the right tools, products, lighting, knowledge, and experience, but it also takes good judgment.

Auto Shine Detailing was built around one simple idea: one vehicle at a time, never an assembly line.

I intentionally keep the shop small and appointment-only so each vehicle gets the time, attention, and care it deserves.

That means taking the time to look at the paint before deciding what it needs, doing the prep work properly, and checking everything under the lights before it leaves.

Not every vehicle needs a full paint correction or a 5-year ceramic coating. Sometimes a good polish and some protection is all it really needs.

Part of doing this professionally is knowing the difference and being honest about it.

I’d rather do fewer vehicles and do them right than rush through a bunch of cars just to get the next one in.

No assembly line, no rushing, and no trying to sell someone something their vehicle doesn’t need.

Just good work, attention to detail, and making sure every customer feels like their vehicle was worth the time and money they put into it.

Three years ago, we coated this 4Runner with SB3 ALPHA, and it’s still performing great. 💦✨

It came back in for a ceramic coating maintenance wash, so we gave it a thorough cleaning and checked over the coating to make sure everything was still performing the way it should. Three years later, the water behavior and protection are still right where we want them.

We also took care of the inside with our Premium Interior Detail. All the cracks and crevices were cleaned, along with the leather, plastics, center console and glass. We even tackled some dog hair while we were in there.

The customer also decided to renew the windshield coating, which helps water roll off the glass and improves visibility when those heavy Georgia rainstorms hit. 🌧️

It’s always nice seeing vehicles come back years after we coated them and seeing the protection still doing its job. Proper maintenance really does make a difference.

Ever wonder what ceramic coating actually looks like once it cures?

This little clear piece is ceramic coating that was allowed to cure in a much larger amount than you’d ever apply to a vehicle.

Pretty cool to see, but there’s an important distinction: this is NOT what’s sitting on top of your paint.

When I ceramic coat a vehicle, the coating is applied in an extremely thin, controlled layer. It bonds to the surface and cures into a protective layer that you really can’t see on its own.

That thin layer is what helps provide the slickness, water behavior, chemical resistance, UV protection, and easier maintenance that ceramic coatings are known for.

So while this little chunk is a cool example of what the coating becomes when it cures, your vehicle isn’t wrapped in a thick shell of glass. 😂

Ceramic coatings are impressive, but understanding what they actually do is just as important as knowing what they don’t do.

Why are wheels so important in a detail?

Because you can have the paint looking great, but if the wheels and tires are still dirty, the whole vehicle just looks unfinished.

Wheels take a beating. Brake dust, road grime, tar and iron contamination all build up pretty quickly. That’s why I spend the extra time getting into the wheel faces, lug areas, tires and wheel wells instead of just giving them a quick rinse.

Clean wheels and properly dressed tires also give the vehicle that finished look. Sometimes you don’t even realize how much of a difference they make until everything is cleaned up.

I always say it’s kind of like wearing a nice outfit with dirty shoes.

The little details matter.
