Ever wonder why one car can polish up pretty easily, while another takes a lot more work to get the same results? 🤔
A lot of it comes down to the clear coat. They’re not all the same.
🔴 Soft clear coat tends to scratch and swirl more easily. The upside is those imperfections usually polish out easier, although softer paint can also be a little finicky to finish perfectly.
🔴 Medium clear coat falls right in the middle. It handles everyday wear a little better and usually responds well to polishing without putting up too much of a fight.
🔴 Hard clear coat is generally more resistant to light scratching, but when swirls and defects do show up, they can take quite a bit more work to remove.
And harder doesn’t necessarily mean better. It just means the paint needs to be approached differently.
That’s why I always start with a test spot before getting into a full paint correction. Two cars can look equally swirled under the lights, but once the polishing starts, they can be two completely different animals.
There really is no one-size-fits-all way to polish paint.
