People of Luft Tokyo - Part 2

The cars brought us here. But it’s the faces, the energy and the spirit of everyone who made the journey across oceans and across generations that made Tokyo something we’ll never forget. The perfect blend of fashion, art and culture to create the happening.

The A|W Chronicle, Part 3.

By now, you know the Luftgekühlt team does not stand still.

Air|Water is on its own fresh trajectory continuing to build momentum with expanded programming, new exhibits and newly told stories. Our sights are set on continued national and international market expansion.

Patrick Long put it plainly: “In the years ahead I see Air|Water as the go-to Porsche experience, a known annual place for the community to gather.” The team has its eyes on national and international expansion, new markets, new formats and new ways to tell the full story of Porsche that goes beyond what any one event can hold in a single day.

Getting in now means being part of it from the ground up. The people who came to Mare Island in 2023 were there for the first chapter. The people who came to Costa Mesa in 2024 were there when it stood on its own for the first time. The people who came to Warsaw, Poland edition brought more of the international community into the mix in June 2025. The people coming on April 25, 2026 are part of something that is still building, still moving, still becoming what it is going to be.

You never know what Air|Water may look like in Tokyo, or Munich, or wherever the next stop turns out to be. But the community gathering on April 25 in Costa Mesa will.

Come be part of it. April 25. OC Fair & Event Center, Costa Mesa.

Luft Tokyo. March 14, 2026.

The KK Line had served Tokyo for 66 years. Opened in 1959, it connected the heart of the city for generations of commuters. Then it went quiet.

For one night, it belonged to us.

Over 11,600 people made their way to Ginza. More than 220 air-cooled Porsches lined a stretch of elevated expressway above one of the world’s great cities. It was Luftgekühlt’s first event in Asia and a long time in the making.

The cars were extraordinary. But it was the people who came from every corner of the world to be part of this that made Tokyo something we’ll carry for a long time.

This is what happened.

The A|W Chronicle, Part 1: The Beginning

April 30, 2023. The day after Luft 9.

The decommissioned naval shipyard at Mare Island had just hosted over a thousand air-cooled Porsches and 12,000 people from 48 states and 22 countries. The gates had closed. And Patrick Long was ready to open a different door entirely.

Air|Water was born the following morning on the same ground. A natural next chapter from the team behind Luftgekühlt, built around a simple but far-reaching idea: the full Porsche story deserved its own stage. Every era. Every platform. Race and street, vintage and modern, air-cooled and water-cooled, two-door and four.

Patrick had spent nearly 20 years as a Porsche factory driver. His career began behind the wheel of a 996. He understood what the water-cooled generation meant to the people who had always loved Porsche but never quite had a gathering to call their own. Transaxle owners. Boxster drivers. GT3 devotees. Cayenne and Taycan owners finding their place in the culture for the first time.

The first Air|Water brought a new format and foundation to be built upon. Interactive building exhibits. A live auction. Expanded Partner activations. New builders, artists, and enthusiasts alongside familiar faces. As Patrick put it, “it was our chance to take away a bit of the mystique and welcome in a new Porsche experience to the broader audience.”

That was the beginning, with a focus on building something unique for new and old alike.

The fourth edition is two weeks away. April 25. Costa Mesa, CA.

From dream to reality - a new level unlocked.

On March 14, Japan brought a world of connections together with a massive turn out at Luftgekühlt’s first Tokyo happening.

The special venue in the heart of the city laid out an incredible selection of air-cooled craft and culture. Suspended above the thriving streets of the Ginza district, reinvented the Tokyo Expressway’s famous KK line D8 section. From simulation, to the young racer’s dream, this gathering brought fantasy to real life.

Thank you to all who showed up, our partners, and our team. We’re already dreaming up what’s next. ✔️
