Sgt. Micheal Pontician, Iraq invasion 2003, Egypt 2006 and Afghanistan 2008. What a character. Fun fact for ya, Ole Uncle Ed, Mike and I took a little excursion to Isreal during our Egypt Deployment. While Ed was chatting it up with a fellow bird watcher that he met while we were walking around near the beach, Mike and I started walking towards the water to get a little closer and discovered that we were walking into an old beach mine field. You see we didn't know this because the fence and "Danger Land Mine Area" signs were laying on the ground. I believe Ed caught a glimpse of the sign on the ground and alerted us to what we had gotten ourselves into. (I have a picture somewhere but can't find it). Pucker factor set in and we began walking backwards in our footprints that got us in there. No Wonder the Israeli patrol boat had soldier's yelling at us. The problem was the language barrier, and we had no clue what they were yelling at us.

Mike was an avid book reader but not those cheesy fictional books, Mike read books on History and sometime politics, and he retained everything that he read and would never lose a debate if it was something that he had read about.

SFC Edward Wetzel, or Uncle Ed as many of us called him. Ed was a great Leader who was a Cold War Veteran, he also pulled duty on the DMZ when he was in Korea, he was part of the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, Egypt (MFO) in 2006, back to Iraq in 2007 (He Volunteered for that one right after we came back from Egypt). Ed was an avid bird watcher and would often travel across the country just to catch a glimpse of a bird he hadn't seen yet . He liked his coffee black and would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation if he liked you lol. He would also tell you exactly what he thought whether you liked it or not. Rest Easy Uncle Ed. We still have the watch down here.
