Nigeria just made a significant move for vehicle importers.

As of July 1st, 2026, the Nigerian government reduced import duties on new vehicles from 20% to 10%. For used vehicles, the reduction is even sharper, from 15% to 5%.

For anyone importing a vehicle from the United States to Nigeria, this is not a small thing. On a $60,000 vehicle alone, you are looking at thousands of dollars in potential savings.
But there is a detail most people are missing.

A new Green Tax Surcharge also took effect on the same date. Depending on your engine size, this adds 2% to 4% on top of your customs calculation. If you are importing a high-performance or luxury vehicle with a large engine, you need to factor this in carefully.
