Rust help!

I’ve got a 6 year old blaze king I’ve been battling rust with and am looking for advice. I live in an incredibly rainy coastal town in BC, we get 3m+ of rain on an average year, and I can’t seem to keep my stove dry if I’m not running it every storm.

You can see the set up. Initially the flashing around the chimney was leaking so we re-did the caulking and fixed that issue. Now water seems to be coming in between the the layers of chimney pipe, and I don’t know how to fix it. Seems like any chimney cap would let water in when it’s raining 200mm a day and blowing 50kts.

Is this just normal for such a wet place? Unfortunately it’s not cold enough to warrant using the stove full time for half the rainy season.

Help me identify this brand of chimney pipe

I have this chimney that needs the top two pieces replaced, damaged this summer, and a new rain cap. The pipe is double wall stainless but there are no identifying stamps or stickers to be found. I was able to take the bottom cap off the clean out tee and also show its diameter. I was thinking either duratech or Selkirk. What brand is it? I have a piece of duratech handy, should the correct pipe fit into the bottom of the tee or is there another easy way to check? I’ll need a 600$ per day man lift to access the top so I want to make sure to have the right parts on hand for the repair!

HELP. Drywalling ceiling with current wood stove and heat shield already installed in the ceiling

Hi everybody. I'm living in an old Cottage that has a wood stove with the usual pipe going up through the ceiling with the heat shield. The ceiling consists of strapping nailed to the ceiling joists and then old ceiling tiles stapled to it so I am drywalling onto thar and sandwiching the ceiling tiles. I'm stumped what to do with the heat shield shroud, I don't see how I can get it off from underneath and I'm afraid I might have to dismantle the entire chimney which is double wall insulated in the attic. That would probably take me at least a full day of cursing and swearing. Also, ahere is an old piece of ribbed aluminum which was probably incorrect, if I take that down that might get me 3/8" Gap and I can probably slide the half inch drywall in there if I massage it, but I would still need to drop the heat shield to cut out and discard that piece of aluminum. Sucking photo is in the Attic where I peeled everything back to have a look to see if there were any attachment screws. I think it's MacGyver time. Anybody have any suggestions?

Maybe getting too hot?

Is this a good place for the thermometer? This stove is made for coal but I need burning wood in it. It's a pain to keep calm since it wants to either smoke if I close the lower air feed or rage if I leave it even a little open.

In case you ever wondered how effective double wall pipe is...

For some background, I'm running an old US Stove in my shop in northern Minnesota. I was curious how hot the outside of the double wall insulated pipe would get so I bought another thermometer and put it where it should get really hot, right where the double wall exits the support box. After 18 months of use I've never seen it get above 180F. I'm careful to keep the stove running between 300F and 450F measured at 16" above the stove on single wall pipe.

This picture was taken with my stovepipe thermometer on the single wall reading 450F at 16" above the top of the stove, the thermometer in the picture is only 4' higher.

Stove is burning clean and hot. I'm at 75 degrees in a very drafty building with mediocre insulation and it's 4 degrees outside, no visible smoke from the chimney.

The interesting thing to me is that in the dead of summer when it's 85F outside and the sun is blasting my chimney, this thermometer gets to 150F on a regular basis.

Discoloration on the pipe mean I've been burning too hot?

A week ago I got a proper magnetic stack temp gauge, rather than checking it every 20 min with the IR temp gun. They both show a pretty close temp when measuring. Over the past week I've noticed the pipe get discoloration from heat. When I'm burning, I keep it about 400f 18 inches up, never over firing.

TO EVERYONE THINKING CHIMNEY INSTALLATION IS EASY — LOOK AT THIS MONSTER!

Two ladders. Spider-Man-level balancing. One giant angled stainless steel pipe. Holding it in place while praying gravity doesn’t win. ONE WRONG MOVE and this thing could have flattened the AC unit below.

The lower section will be boxed in to avoid the REDNECK ROCKET look, but make no mistake — this was sweat, precision, and total DIY chaos.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE chimney installation.
