They are revamping Gold Mountain..
This will be a fun trail in the next coming months!
Good trail information below!
Gold Mountain has been our Adopt-A-Trail along with West Coast 4WD for over 12 years. We have spent a lot of years working to keep the trail open. The last few years, lessor equipt vehicles have been making go around trails around the obstacles on the trail. This has threatened the Pebble Plains and other sensitive areas along the route. If we can't get this under control, the trail could be CLOSED. We have been working on solutions for years, but finally got the blessings from the USFS for a compromise. The plan is build gate keepers at the trailhead to keep the trail rated at MOST difficult. This new rock garden/gate keeper is the first step. In the near future there will be a gate closed at the beginning of the trail to allow the USFS and Fish and Wildlife to access the lower sections of trail. Next to the gate will be the new gate keeper. We hope this will make all parties involved happy and preserve the trail into the future! We have to keep people on the trail as designated.
Also please help spread the word that the illegal bypasses will get the trail permanently closed. Please stay on the existing trail, and enjoy Gold Mountain as a MOST Difficult trail. It has been designated since the 1980's with this classification. Also please note: if you can't get through the gate keeper, the trail doesn't get easier up ahead. Gold Mountain has it's tough obstacles, but is doable by most rigs.
This project is being completed with our club funds, and donations from several groups and companies.
On edit, as the day finished out, the obstacle turned out great. We got a Gladiator on a budget boost through, a JK on 37's, and a WJ Grand Cherokee with a 2.5 lift and 32"tires with armor. All walked through without lockers, the Grand had to work a little. This should be on par with the rest of the trail, but scare away the unprepared. It looks worse than it is, and it is solid. There is many tons of rocks there locked in.
More info soon.
