Last weekend we ran the final race of 2024 at Waterford Hills Road Racing. It was a pretty exciting weekend because we were dealing with a few new things. First time racing as a married man⦠first time racing in an NB⦠First time competing for the WHRRI Spec Miata Championship⦠and last but certainly not least, first time racing with our newest sponsor on the car (a post on this later - it's a cause that's very near and dear to my heartā¦)!
Surprise! Pitt Crew Racing has added an NB to the stable. We had the car for 4 days and decided⦠what the heck, letās shake it down at the last race of the year. Lots of kinks to work out, I didnāt have time to change/mount the seat to the floor (the car was originally set up for a 15-year old and on factory sliders) so I wasnāt comfortable and I was learning the car with unknown setup and unknown heat cycled tires, but I appreciated the driver challenge! The car definitely felt foreign to me, but we managed to get by this weekend with a WIN the first time out in the car and a fastest lap of the race by a few tenths. I canāt wait to work on it all winter and fine-tune everything to the same extent as the #51 car. Thanks so much to DeRonne for capturing a picture of my checkered flag lap from the first time ever racing the car.
Donāt get used to the look though, this car will look completely different next season! š
Final Race Summary:
With 2 laps to go on the Sunday Feature race, I missed 3rd gear (like 3 times) and Ron was right there to capitalize on my mistake and take the lead of the race. There was no time to come back from it. Ronnie earned the win, his first win, in a heck of a field. So proud of this young guy who shows up and runs the wheels off that 1.6. Heās going to be a heck of a contender next year and I look forward to racing with him some more. I'll upload the video for that race soon!
