Another A/C diagnostic in the books today.

2013 Hyundai Elantra came in with an A/C complaint that's been present for about a year. Customer had previously been told there was a "hole in the compressor."

Rather than guessing, we verified the system first.

✅ Scanned all modules for faults
✅ Verified blower motor and HVAC controls were operating properly
✅ Tested compressor control circuit and relay operation
✅ Confirmed the compressor was capable of receiving power
✅ Connected manifold gauges

Result: The A/C system was found completely empty at 0 PSI on both the high and low side.

Visual inspection showed evidence consistent with a leak around the compressor area, which matches the customer's previous information and the findings from today's testing.

Next step is a proper repair, including compressor/component replacement, system flushing, vacuum testing, recharge, and final performance verification.

This is why diagnostics matter. A lot of shops jump straight to selling parts. We verify what's working, verify what's not, and build a repair plan based on testing.

BMW deep inspection 🔧

Customer complaint was highway vibration, MPG concern, soot/exhaust concern, and wanting a second set of eyes on a recently purchased BMW 435i xDrive.

Started with a full-system scan and live data review, not just a basic code reader. The engine had an intermittent lean mixture fault stored, so I recorded fuel trim data at idle, higher idle, and during road testing. Fuel pressure and charging voltage looked okay during testing, so I’m not jumping straight to fuel pump or injector claims. The data is pointing more toward a possible air-metering/unmetered air issue that needs further verification.

Road test also revealed a front-end clunk/click during low-speed turns/bumps, so I did not push the car to 85 mph on the highway. Customer car, possible front-end issue — safety comes first.

Initial inspection also found a few things worth noting:

- Front brake pad sensor/wiring not properly secured
- Passenger outer tie rod boot cracked/dry
- Wetness near passenger inner axle/front differential area
- Coolant odor and seepage near a quick-connect/return hose area
- Wetness near rear main/back of oil pan area, source not confirmed yet
- Prior steering repair history needs more mechanical verification

Tomorrow is the deeper mechanical verification: steering, rack area, tie rods, struts, sway links, control arms, axle seals, coolant seep, and confirming what has actually been repaired versus what only shows up on paper.

This is why an inspection matters. Codes tell part of the story. Live data tells more. Physical inspection finishes the picture.

Most people see the driveway repairs, diagnostics, and service calls. What they don't see is the hours spent researching repairs, reviewing scan data, ordering parts, scheduling customers, writing invoices, and planning jobs.

This right here is gold.

While working on a customer’s 1979 Corvette, one of his neighbors stopped by and we got talking cars. He had a C4 Corvette years ago, and next thing you know I ended up with factory GM service information for 1984–1991 Corvette chassis models, electrical diagnosis manuals, parts/illustration catalogs, and even an old Kent-Moore ABS tester.

This is what diagnostics used to be.

Before scan tools did half the thinking for you, this was the information. Wiring diagrams, connector views, ground locations, chassis breakdowns, parts illustrations, diagnostic flow charts, ABS testing procedures — all of it printed, organized, and meant to be used by a technician who actually had to understand the system.

For newer cars, my Autel scanner is a huge part of the diagnostic process. But for older vehicles, especially something like a C4 Corvette, having the actual factory information is a completely different level.

This kind of material is how you avoid guessing. You look up the circuit, follow the wire colors, verify the grounds, check the connector pins, and test the system the way GM intended.

Old-school information. Old-school diagnostics. Still valuable today.

Just wanted to give a shout out to

I'm a mobile mechanic and have followed your injector content for quite a while. Watching the testing, cleaning, flow matching, and seeing what actually happens inside aging injectors changed how I look at fuel system diagnostics.

Recently I had a 2000 Toyota Camry with a long-standing hesitation and air/fuel ratio issue. After extensive diagnosis, I removed all four injectors, cleaned and tested them, replaced deteriorated injector sealing components, and put everything back together. The difference was immediate. Fuel trims improved, drivability improved, and the customer noticed the smoother operation right away.

Obviously my home setup isn't on the level of the professional equipment you guys use, but your videos were a big part of what pushed me to take a deeper look at the injectors instead of just assuming the next sensor was bad.

It's easy to forget that injectors are mechanical components that wear, clog, leak, and change flow characteristics over time. Seeing the results on this Camry reminded me of that.

Appreciate all the knowledge you put out there for the industry. You helped make me a better diagnostician and a better mechanic.

Back on the 1979 Corvette today for a follow-up repair.

During last visits front wheel bearing service, we found a seized front brake caliper piston that would not retract and was leaking when compressed. The bearing issue was corrected, but the front brake problem had to be addressed before a proper road test.

Today's plan is a new front caliper, both front brake hoses, bleed the system, and verify brake operation.

Sometimes a routine repair turns into finding the next problem before it leaves the driveway. That's why I inspect everything while in there.

One job at a time.

Today’s project: Gregg’s 2000 Camry 5S-FE hesitation/fuel delivery diagnosis.

Fuel pressure testing already checked out, so now we’re moving deeper into the logical side of the repair path:
• Intake manifold gasket
• Injector removal and ultrasonic cleaning
• New injector O-rings/seals
• EGR and intake inspection/cleanup
• Transmission pan/filter service
• Oil pan gasket repair

No parts cannon. Diagnose, verify, repair.

Everything laid out and ready to go — injectors getting cleaned with the ultrasonic setup, manifold coming apart next, and we’ll road test with live scan data afterward to verify the results.

These older Toyotas are worth taking the time to do right.
