SOUTHERN F2000 SERIES — POINTS UPDATE AFTER DAYTONA

Daytona International Speedway gave us two very different races, and the championship order shifted behind the leader.

After a thunderstorm delay, a wet Race 1 went to Justin Smith, with Chris Scharnow second and Marc Stern third. Race 2 on Sunday in the dry flipped the script — Scharnow took the win with a sub-2 minute best lap, Stern backed up his podium with second, and David Wilklow in a rebuilt rear end after some major bellhousing damage previously climbed to third.

OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP — TOP 5

Justin Smith — 181
Paul Douglas — 106
Marc Stern — 85
Stanley Hallock — 74
James Johnson — 67

PINTO-POWERED CHAMPIONSHIP

Stanley Hallock — 74
David Wilklow — 33
Rosella Manfrinato — 17
David Klutsenbaker — 16

Smith carries a 75-point cushion into the final round. Behind him, Stern's double podium has him hunting second overall, and Stanley Hallock's two clean finishes at Daytona moved him up to fourth while extending his lead in the Pinto-Powered class.

Next up: Roebling Road Raceway, October 17-18, Double SARRC.

🌧️ TECH TIP: RACING IN THE RAIN 🌧️

The dry line isn't your friend once the sky opens up. Here's what to keep in mind before your next wet session.

FIND THE GRIP
Years of rubber buildup polish the dry line smooth. Off-line, rougher pavement can actually offer more grip in the wet — don't be afraid to move off your usual line.

WATCH THE PAINT AND CURBS
Painted markings, curbs, and rumble strips get slippery fast. High-grip motorsport-specific curb and track paint exists, but it's pricey and far from universal, so treat every painted surface as suspect until proven otherwise.

STAY OFF THE GRASS
Wet grass is slick as snot — avoid it at all costs. Spin into it and you'll be babying the throttle just to get back on track without spinning the tires all over again.

KEEP YOUR VISIBILITY UP
Sedan with A/C? The small horsepower loss is worth it to keep the windshield from fogging up when you need to see the most.

MIND THE STANDING WATER
Watch for areas with excessive puddling — curbed apexes are a common culprit since the curbing blocks water from draining off the track.

DRY YOUR CONTACT POINTS
If you've got the crew and the time before a wet session, towel-dry the pedal pads and the soles of your shoes. Small habit, big difference in pedal feel.

🏁 FORMULA CAR SETUP TIP OF THE DAY 🏁

Where do you even start when dialing in a formula car? Here's a macro-to-micro framework to get you in the ballpark before you start chasing tenths.

HIGH SPEED (>80 mph)
If the car understeers or oversteers above 80 mph, you're in a high-downforce condition — start with wing adjustments before touching mechanical grip.

Scharnow dominates at Daytona in race 2

Aug 2,2026
From Jacksonville,Florida

What an exciting weekend at the famed Daytona International speedway for the Formula faceparts Fc event.
Chris Scharnow showed his speed in a dry race today taking a big win for the St. Petersburg native. Justin Smith was running 2nd but probably didn’t have the speed to beat Chris but maintained that position until late retirement with electronic issue. Marc Stern had a solid weekend picking up another podium spot in 2nd place and long time Fc competitor David Wilklow from Ocala ,Fl was thrilled to get the final podium spot. Congratulations to a strong and growing field of cars in the southeast division .

Rain master Justin Smith wins a wild one at Daytona

Aug 1,2026. From Daytona international

Justin Smith from Charlotte wins a rain soaked race at Daytona today. He ran wheel to wheel against pole sitter Chris Scharnow from St.pete ,Fl. Justin was on a mission today and was taking no prisoners as he passed Chris leading to the banking . Chris had a spin which allowed other cars to get past him but he quickly regained pace in 3rd spot.
Last months winner in Savannah Marc Stern from Hilton Head pulled into 2nd spot and within a lap was having a fierce battle with Chris Scharnow around the banking and Chris managed a pass in very hazardous conditions ,back to 2nd spot where he remained . Marc Stern held off Jim Johnson after Jim clawed his way back to 4th after a scary spin on the front strait on the banking . Stan Hallock from Orlando survived some craziness grabbed 5th spot.
I think after today’s race everyone hoping for dry day on Sunday

🌀 Your spring rate is either working for you — or costing you lap time.

Hyperco coilover springs are the benchmark for precision suspension tuning in formula car racing. Whether you're chasing a championship in F4, FR Americas, USF, Carrera Cup, SCCA or running vintage formula on the weekend — the right spring rate is one of the fastest (and most overlooked) setup gains on the car.

At Formula Race Parts, we supply Hyperco springs across a wide range of rates and lengths for open-wheel, GT, sports racers, and even offroad/ baja applications. Wide selection. Fast shipping. Global delivery.

✅ 2% rate linearity tolerance (20–60% deflection)

🏁 SOUTHERN F2000 HEADS TO DAYTONA! 🏁

The Southern F2000 Series rolls into the World Center of Racing — and the championship fight is heating up as we hit the high banks and infield road course at Daytona International Speedway! 🏆

📅August 1-2, 2026

After Roebling, here's how the Overall Championship stacks up heading in:

🥇 Justin Smith — 139 pts
🥈 Paul Douglas — 106 pts
🥉 James Johnson — 50 pts
4️⃣ Marc Stern — 46 pts
5️⃣ Stanley Hallock — 42 pts
6️⃣ Sam Collier — 36 pts

Justin Smith carries a commanding 33-point lead into Daytona — but with 25 points on the line for a win, Paul Douglas is well within striking distance if the results swing his way. Behind them, the fight for the final podium spots in the championship is wide open, with just a handful of points separating positions 3 through 6. Expect Marc Stern to fight hard with his new MZR. Every lap at Daytona counts! 💪

Whether you're chasing the Overall title or the Pinto-Powered Championship, this is one you won't want to miss. Come out and watch these F2000 machines battle wheel-to-wheel at one of the most iconic circuits in the world! 🏎️💨

Take a look inside Wilwood Engineering's 230,000 sq ft facility in Camarillo, California! 🏭

We were fortunate enough to tour the factory last week, and we can't thank the incredible Wilwood team enough. We watched the entire journey a brake caliper, master cylinder, or disc takes — from raw aluminum and steel forgings to beautifully machined and coated parts built for speed.

The history inside these walls is unreal. Hundreds of calipers and discs stored or on display, each with countless races and wins behind them. We even saw the original brake dyno Wilwood used for years to push its pads and discs to the limit.

Quality control isn't just a final step here — it's everywhere. Forgings are inspected BEFORE machining (no sense wasting precious machine and operator time on a forging that isn't perfect to start). Finished parts get checked again, and every master cylinder is bench-tested at multiple pressures before it's signed off and packaged.

The R&D area was something special: an entire facility offline from the main production lines, dedicated to testing and developing new products. It's even home to William Wood's original Bridgeport mill — the machine he used to build Wilwood's very first products!

Then comes the finished-goods warehouse: 25-foot walls of white Wilwood boxes in every shape and size, as far as the eye can see. Thousands of products ship out every day to keep you street- and race-ready. 🏁

Huge thanks again to the Wilwood team for the hospitality — this is why we're proud to put their brakes in your hands.
