For a year I basically drove a car I wasn't allowed to enjoy.

Dog in the back seat meant a towel over everything, a detailing appointment every few weeks, and me quietly losing it over every muddy paw print. The one thing in my car that finally stopped the grocery-avalanche on every drive.

Everything used to slide around back there and end up crushed by the time I got home. Now the bags stay put, because the whole thing grips the trunk floor with Velcro and doesn't budge when I take a corner. Two compartments with a divider I can pull out, a magnetic lid that actually stays shut, and it swallows a full grocery run (50L, up to 30 lbs). When I don't need it, it folds flat in about 2 seconds. Wipes clean when something leaks.

The vet cleared him to travel. I was the one who wasn't ready.

Post-op, the car was the scariest place for him. One sharp turn and he'd lose his footing, and a folded blanket held him about as well as nothing. What finally worked was a hammock with a hard floor underneath, so it doesn't dip in the middle. He rides flat now, the padded side walls stop him sliding, and he actually settles and sleeps the whole way. Waterproof too, so muddy paws and the occasional accident wipe off in one pass. If you've got a senior or recovering dog, this is the thing I'd buy first.

Corgi-sized or husky-sized, this is the back-seat upgrade either one deserves.

The floor is actually hard, so it doesn't sag in the middle. Small dogs stay steady on their feet, big dogs get raised padded sides to lean into, and everyone stops pacing and sliding around on the turns. Waterproof too, so muddy-paw days wipe clean in one pass, and it clips onto the headrests in a couple of minutes. First thing mine does now is settle in and pass out for the whole drive.
