I'm going to tell a story about the value of paying good money for a skilled worker.
There was a shipping company that was set to unveil their brand new top of the line vessel . As they prepared to launch the engine wouldn't start . The owner had every ship mechanics and engineers in the company examine the engine and no one could figure out the problem . Eventually the owner got frantic and found a elderly man who had been a ship mechanic and engineer for 40+ yrs and hired him to come fix the ship . When the old man showed up all of the shipping company mechanics and engineers laughed because all he had was a small bag with tools in it . As he descended into the engine room he could still hear laughter echo as they taunted and belittled him , when he go to the engine room he inspected it really good then pulled out a hammer and tapped in a couple spots and then the engine roared to life . All of the engineers and mechanics were utter shocked that he got it to work and that quickly with barely any tools . As he got ready to leave the owner asked him how much for the repair, the old man said I'll send you a bill . A couple days later the owner gets a bill for $20,000 and demands an itemized statement so the old man replied Cost of hammer $2 . Knowing where and how hard to tap - $19,998 . He also sent a note that said If I do a job in 30 mins it's because I spent 30 years learning how to do that job 30mins. "Your paying for the year of experience not the minutes"
With all that being said I've been doing Automotive repairs for over 14yrs and I have customers all the time that question me as to why I charge book time and if I can do the job in a 1/3 of the time why do I charge full price and everytime I tell them your paying for the years of experience I've acquired to do a 3hr job in 30 mins. "Your paying for the years not the minutes"
