Italian Icons: Built with Passion, Driven with Soul ll Alfa Romeo Alfetta

Ever wonder how a 1970s family sedan ended up with the DNA of a World Champion Formula 1 car? Meet the Alfa Romeo Alfetta (1972–1984).

Named after the legendary "Little Alfa" (the Tipo 159 F1 car), this wasn't just another boxy sedan. It was a masterclass in transaxle engineering that changed the game for sports sedans.

Why It Matters:
- The 50/50 Balance: Most cars of the era were nose-heavy. Alfa moved the gearbox and clutch to the rear (joining the differential), creating near-perfect weight distribution for telepathic handling.
- De Dion Rear Axle: It used a sophisticated De Dion tube suspension to keep the rear wheels vertical at all times, ensuring maximum grip even on the twistiest Italian B-roads.
- Inboard Brakes: To reduce "unsprung weight" (the weight not supported by the springs), Alfa mounted the rear disc brakes next to the gearbox rather than inside the wheels.
- The Heart: Under the hood lived the iconic all-alloy Twin Cam engine, a high-revving masterpiece that sounded as good as it performed.

Fun Fact:
The Alfetta GT (the coupe version) featured a "rebellious" dashboard design by Giorgetto Giugiaro: the tachometer was placed directly in front of the driver, while the speedometer was moved to the center. It sent a clear message: The RPMs matter more than the speed limit.

Despite being a "family car," the Alfetta was a thoroughbred in a suit—proving that you don't need a supercar to experience world-class engineering.

Italian Icons: Built with Passion, Driven with Soul ll Ferrari Purosangue

Don’t call it an SUV. Ferrari insists the Purosangue (Italian for "thoroughbred") is a four-door sports car that just happens to sit higher off the ground. After 75 years of refusing to build a family vehicle, Maranello finally relented—but they did it on their own terms.

The Engineering Masterclass:
- The Heart of a Titan: While competitors use twin-turbo V8s, Ferrari stayed "pure" with a 6.5L naturally aspirated V12. It produces 715 hp and screams to an 8,250 rpm redline, delivering the unmistakable Ferrari soundtrack that turbos just can't mimic.
- The Magic Suspension: This is the Purosangue’s "killer app." It features Ferrari Active Suspension Technology (FAST). Using electric motors on each damper, the car can actively push the wheels down or pull them up to counteract body roll in real-time. It’s so effective it doesn’t even need traditional anti-roll bars.
- Transaxle DNA: Just like the Alfetta, the Purosangue uses a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transmission to achieve a 49:51 weight distribution—a feat nearly impossible for a standard front-engine SUV.
- Welcome Doors: To maintain the sleek silhouette of a coupe while offering four-door utility, Ferrari used rear-hinged "welcome" doors (su***de doors) that open to a 79-degree angle, making the rear seats actually accessible for adults.

Why It’s Unique:
Most performance SUVs are built on shared truck or sedan platforms. The Purosangue is built on a dedicated, unique chassis designed specifically to house that massive V12 as a "front-mid" engine (pushed way back toward the cabin).

It isn't designed for rock crawling; it’s designed to make a mountain pass feel like a racetrack, even with three passengers and luggage in the back.
