A lot of shops won’t touch engine swaps because they take time, experience, and problem-solving. At 360 Auto Service, we do.

Why People Swap Engines:

• Save a vehicle they love instead of buying another one
• Replace a worn-out engine for less than a new vehicle payment
• Upgrade performance and horsepower
• Improve reliability with a better engine platform
• Restore older classics or project vehicles

Things to Consider Before an Engine Swap:

• Is the transmission compatible?
• Will wiring or computer systems need modification?
• Does the cooling system need upgrading?
• Will the suspension or drivetrain handle the extra power?
• Is it more cost-effective than replacing the vehicle?

Not every swap is the same. Some are straightforward replacements. Others require custom fabrication, electrical work, tuning, and careful planning.

That’s why experience matters.

Whether you’re trying to bring a vehicle back to life or build something unique, 360 Auto Service can help you figure out the smartest path forward.

At 360 Auto Service, we handle timing belt and timing chain issues —the kind of tasks a lot of shops won’t take on because of how precise and involved it is.

And there’s a reason it matters.

Most drivers don’t think about timing—until something goes wrong. But inside your engine, timing is everything.
Your engine has a lot of moving parts—valves opening and closing, pistons moving up and down—and they all have to happen at exactly the right moment. That’s what your timing belt or timing chain controls. It keeps everything working in perfect rhythm.

When timing is off… things can go downhill fast.

Why Timing Matters:
• Keeps your engine running smoothly
• Maintains power and fuel efficiency
• Prevents serious (and expensive) engine damage
If the timing belt or chain slips or fails, those carefully coordinated parts can collide—and that can mean major repairs or even engine replacement.

Timing work because it involves precision, experience in taking apart a large portion of engine. It's highly specialized, which is why some shops pass on these kinds of repairs.

We don’t.

At 360 Auto Service, we take the time to do it right.

Is your timing off? Here are some signs:
• Engine misfires or runs rough
• Trouble starting your car
• Loss of power or poor acceleration
• Ticking or unusual engine noises
• Check engine light comes on

Sometimes, though, there are no warning signs at all—which is why replacing a timing belt at the recommended mileage is so important.

The Bottom Line:
Timing isn’t something you see—but it’s something you feel when it’s wrong. Taking care of it early can save you from much bigger problems later.

If you have questions about your timing belt or chain, we’re always happy to take a look and give you straightforward advice.

As the winter weather rolled through southern Virginia, we were glad to see the salt trucks out and about. Salt helps melt ice, which improves traction and prevents accidents. But if we don't remove salt from our vehicles after winter storms, it can cause rust, brake corrosion, and long-term damage.

What to know:
• Salt traps moisture against metal
• It builds up in wheel wells & undercarriage
• Damage builds up over time, so consider cleaning salt off your car as routine winter care.

What to do:
✔️ When temps are above freezing, rinse your car
✔️ Focus on the undercarriage & wheel wells
✔️ A quick rinse helps — no full detail needed

A little cleanup after winter storms can help protect your vehicle and save money later.

❄️💙 Stay safe — and take care of your car.

It's icy out there, friends. We know most folks are wisely staying home today — but if you have to be on the road, a little preparation and patience can make a big difference.

❅ Slow down (more than you think you need to).
❅ Ice removes your margin for error. Gentle movements are your friend.
❅ Increase your following distance.
❅ Leave at least 8–10 seconds between you and the car ahead. Stopping takes much longer on ice.
❅ Brake early and lightly.
❅ If you start to slide, take your foot off the brake and steer gently in the direction you want the car to go.
❅ Avoid sudden movements.
❅ No quick acceleration, sharp turns, or hard braking. Smooth and steady wins the day.
❅ Use low gears when possible. This helps control speed without relying too much on your brakes.
❅ Watch bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas. These freeze first and stay icy longest — even when the rest of the road looks fine.

If you start to skid:
• Stay calm
• Ease off the pedals
• Steer gently in the direction of the skid
• Don’t overcorrect

And finally:
If conditions feel unsafe, trust your instincts. No errand is worth risking your life.

Stay warm, stay safe, and check on your neighbors if you can. ❄️💙

When the temperatures start dropping in Virginia, your car feels it, too. This winter is forecasted to be a rough one. Cold weather can affect everything from your tire pressure to your battery health—so a little bit of winter prep can go a long way toward preventing roadside headaches.

Here are the key ways to winterize your vehicle before the season sets in:
1. Check Your Battery
Cold weather weakens battery performance, and most batteries only last 3–5 years.
✔️ Look for slow cranking, dim lights, or corrosion on the terminals.
✔️ Have your battery load-tested so you know it’s dependable in freezing temperatures.

2. Inspect Tires & Tire Pressure
As the temperature drops, so does your tire pressure—about 1 PSI for every 10 degrees. Low pressure reduces traction and fuel economy.
✔️ Inflate to factory-recommended PSI.
✔️ Check tread depth; if it’s below 4/32”, consider replacing.
✔️ Switch to winter-ready tires if you live in a rural or icy area.

3. Replace Worn Wiper Blades
Winter storms and early sunsets mean you’ll rely on your wipers more.
✔️ Replace blades if they’re streaking or skipping.
✔️ Top off with winter-grade washer fluid—regular fluid can freeze.

4. Inspect Your Brakes
You may not notice brake wear until you’re stopping on wet or icy roads.
✔️ Have pads, rotors, and brake lines inspected for safety.

5. Protect Your Fluids
Antifreeze is your engine’s first line of defense in cold weather.
✔️ Make sure your coolant is at the right mixture (usually 50/50).
✔️ Consider winter-weight oil if your vehicle recommends it.

6. Check Your Heater & Defroster
Being cold is uncomfortable—but visibility is essential.
✔️ Make sure both systems are working before your first frost.

7. Prepare an Emergency Kit
Unexpected weather can make a simple trip unpredictable. Stock your trunk with:
🧤 Gloves & blankets
🔦 Flashlight
🥤 Bottled water & snacks
🔧 Basic tools
🚗 Jumper cables
📱 Portable phone charger
🧊 Ice scraper

A little maintenance now can save you major repairs later.

It’s easy to let an oil change slide. Life gets busy, and the car seems to be running just fine — until it isn’t. The truth is, every extra mile on old oil is quietly wearing your engine down in ways you may not notice until it’s too late.

🚘Sludge: The Engine’s Silent Killer
Fresh oil glides through your engine, keeping everything cool and smooth. Old oil, on the other hand, breaks down and thickens into sticky sludge. It clogs tiny oil passages, starving critical parts of lubrication. The damage happens slowly — but once metal starts grinding on metal, it can’t be undone.

🚘Heat Builds Where You Can’t See It
Oil doesn’t just lubricate — it helps carry away heat. When it’s old and dirty, it can’t do its job. Temperatures rise, parts begin to warp, and seals start to fail. You won’t know anything’s wrong… until the temperature light comes on, or worse, the engine seizes.

🚘Wear You Can’t Repair Cheaply
Engines are built to last hundreds of thousands of miles — but only if they’re protected. Skipping oil changes shortens that lifespan. Pistons, crankshafts, and camshafts wear out long before they should. Repairing them costs thousands; sometimes it’s cheaper to replace the entire engine.

🚘Poor Performance Becomes the First Warning
Before total failure hits, you may notice subtle changes: worse gas mileage, sluggish acceleration, or an odd ticking sound. By the time you hear it, the wear has already happened.

🚘Why Wait for a Breakdown?
Oil changes are quick and inexpensive. Engine repairs are not. If you’re overdue, stop by 360 Auto Sales & Service before that quiet wear turns into a loud (and costly) failure. The timing to check your oil is excellent. We're running our Autumn Oil Change Special. Each Monday through the month of October, you can by for an oil change with up to five quarts of our premium oil for just $40!

Stay Safe on the Road: Driving in Stormy Weather

A change of seasons combined with the threat of hurricanes means stormy weather this time of year in southern Virginia. Heavy rain, slick roads, and reduced visibility can put you and your family at risk if you aren't careful.

At 360 Auto Sales & Service, we know how quickly early fall storms can turn an ordinary drive into a stressful one. Here are a few tips to keep you and your family safe when the skies open up:

🌧️ Safe Driving Tips for Stormy Weather
• Slow down: Wet roads reduce traction—give yourself extra time to brake and increase following distance.
• Use your headlights: Even during the day, headlights make you more visible to other drivers in heavy rain.
• Avoid cruise control: On slick roads, staying in control means keeping your foot ready to adjust instantly.
• Steer clear of standing water: Hydroplaning can happen at low speeds—if you can’t gauge depth, don’t risk it.
• Stay calm if you skid: Ease off the gas, steer gently in the direction you want to go, and avoid slamming brakes.

🚗 Get Your Vehicle Storm-Ready
Good driving habits matter—but so does the condition of your car. Before the next storm hits, check:
• Tires: Adequate tread depth and correct inflation keep you grounded in the rain.
• Windshield wipers: Streaks or skipping mean it’s time for new blades.
• Brakes: Responsive brakes are essential when roads are wet and stopping distances increase.
• Lights: Headlights, taillights, and turn signals should all be working and bright for visibility.

Need a quick checkup?

Bring your vehicle to 360 Auto Sales & Service and let us make sure your tires, brakes, and wipers are storm-ready. A little preventative maintenance now can save you a lot of stress later.

Virginia law requires all vehicles to pass a safety inspection each year (or when registering a vehicle) to make sure they meet minimum standards for safe operation. For many drivers, failing inspection can mean surprises, delays, and unexpected repair costs. At 360 Auto Sales & Service, we believe in helping you stay on the road with confidence — so here’s what your car needs to do to pass.

✅ Key Components Checked During a VA Safety Inspection

• Brakes: Adequate pad or shoe material, proper function, no leakage in lines
• Lights & Signals: Headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and license plate light must all work
• Tires: Sufficient tread depth, no visible damage, correct size, and proper inflation
• Windshield & Windows: No cracks or chips that impair driver vision; wipers must function properly
• Mirrors: Side and rearview mirrors must be present and secure
• Horn: Must work and be audible
• Steering & Suspension: No excessive play; shocks or struts and other suspension parts should be in good condition
• Exhaust System & Emissions (if applicable in your area): No dangerous leaks, muffler in good shape, emissions components present and working
• Seat Belts: All belts must retract properly, latch securely, and be free of damage

👨‍🔧 How to Get Inspection-Ready

• Check all lights before you head in; replace any bulbs that are dim or out
• Inspect tires for wear, bulges, or embedded objects; rotate if needed
• Test windshield wipers; replace worn blades to prevent streaks or failure in rain
• Listen for unusual noises in brakes or suspension and address issues early
• Make sure mirrors and horn are intact and working
• Do a pre-inspection self check: drive the car, test the brakes, turn on all signal
If you want peace of mind and want to avoid failing inspection (and the extra trips), bring your car to 360 Auto Sales & Service. We’ll do a full pre-inspection check, fix what needs fixing, and make sure your ride is ready to pass.
