Needing some Monday motivation? If you don’t quit, you can’t lose.

Savannah started with humble beginnings, literally siezing a wheel bearing on the drive home from purchasing her. It took 16 years of “while I’m in there” to get her on the road. It took another 10 years to bring her to where she is today.

The journey is sometimes part of the process. Don’t forget to enjoy at least part of it!

How long have you all been working in your cars?

Never done, always iterating.

That’s the reality for most project cars. While the original project might eventually be complete, most of us builders enjoy part of the build process.

The natural progression of that is iteration. This might show itself as a new set of wheels, different suspension components, or body pieces.

This stage is more akin to modifying a new car than building an old one.

I’m currently on iterative epoch 2 of my car.

How many iterations has your car gone through?

Face up, ass down. No, it’s not the K**a Sutra. It’s part of Pontiac’s design philosophy for cars in the late ’60s into the ’70s.

John DeLorean favored sleek lines with a European flair that included a spoiler-less Firebird trunk lid.

Engineering played a role in the decision to keep the rear end low on these cars. The F-Body platform was one of the first in the GM lineup to see wind tunnel testing. It became clear that the overall body attitude helped optimize airflow over the windshield and reduce drag. By dropping the rear, Pontiac improved aerodynamic efficiency.

This is most evident in 1969, where the rear axle included dents on the axle tubes to gain travel clearance from the lowered stance.

While the Day 2 style of a forward rake was prevalent in the aftermarket, many Pontiac performance cars from this era should actually have a slight reverse rake (nose up, tail down).

Factory reverse rake or the popular Day 2 forward stance, which do you run on your classic?

Winter upgrades are in the book and the weather has been warm. Here’s some pure Pontiac power for your Monday!

As some may know I recently added Global West Cat 5 spherical bearing leaf springs to my 1969 Firebird. However the Ridetech subframe connectors I had been using just aren’t designed for this type of setup. Although I modified their integrated front mount, I couldn’t tame the ride quality from repeated contact from the leaf spring eyes.

A swap became necessary. Global West designs an open leaf spring mount with studs that offer clearance for the leaf springs to tilt and articulate, while still providing additional strength in the spring eye pocket.

This change also necessitates using different subframe connectors. I opted for Global West’s interlocking and weld-in connectors. These things are seriously beefy and the powder coat is very nice. A solid rear body bushing that is shortened to accommodate the .2” thick steel box is also provided.

I don’t mess around without subframe connectors on this car after almost ripping the body from the frame without them.

Stroked 400’s ≠ 455’s 🔥

Cubic inches end up similar, but they make power very differently.

The factory 455’s larger bore (especially after a typical over-bore) gets you way closer to a true square bore/stroke ratio. That unshrouds the valves and gives killer upper-RPM breathing.

Same cam, intake, and exhaust? The 455 will usually carry horsepower 200–400 rpm higher than a stroked 400.

Built both? Drop your dyno numbers or tell me which one you’d rather have on the street/track 👇

Final round of shots I took from last weekend. No Pontiac content here, but still some great cars!

The ‘69 Camaro is LS3/4l60e equipped and the c5 corvette boasts some minor engine work and a spicey rear mount turbo.
