Insurance steering is illegal because it interferes with your right to choose your repair shop.

In Colorado (and most states), the law says:
➡️ The vehicle owner—not the insurance company—chooses where the car gets repaired.

Insurance companies cross the line into illegal steering when they:
• Tell or pressure you to use a specific “preferred” shop
• Suggest your repairs will be delayed or not guaranteed if you don’t use their shop
• Mislead you into thinking you’ll pay more out of pocket if you choose a different shop
• Fail to clearly tell you that you have the right to choose
