Reasons I Might NOT Be The Right Auto Detailer For You

#1 Consultation Required Prior To Booking And Pricing

Most people make the mistake of treating words or phrases like detailing, paint correction, or ceramic coating, like they are shopping for a gallon of milk at the grocery store. In reality, detailing services are more complex. Some significantly! I do not expect most of my clients to be experts at detailing, but that is the value in talking to a (non-AI) real person.

#2 I Cost Real Money
It is the elephant in the room for some not accepting detailing as a luxury service. There are fast-food choices, chain restaurants options, and nice restaurants available to us. I cater to clients (not always) that typically fit into the category of car enthusiasts. You do not have to fit into that category if you prioritize quality, professionalism, and peace of mind.

#3 I Will Say No

I treat my relationships with my clients like that of a partnership in caring for their vehicles. Being SELF EMPLOYED and trusted expert, my services are set to my standards and ethics. I will say within my standards of professionalism, the uncomfortable truths other experienced professionals already know. I will say NO. I will challenge your beliefs about detailing. I am going to ask about how you care for your car. Putting myself in a consumer’s shoes, knowing what I know in the industry, I would appreciate this about the business the most.

It was not being for everyone that created the brand Mirror Reflections Auto Spa. Many non detailing professionals do not realize this. It would be and definitely been A LOT EASIER to be a typical mainstream detailer. But to dig deeper, for me it would have been more difficult internally. I started this business with the intent to not just pretend to treat other cars like my own. I became determined to stay congruent. I am still here operating a detailing business btw.

It was a great experience being part of the 25TH anniversary of Mobile Tech Expo earlier this year. This video is in addition to being a recap of the first few months of 2026, a showcase of my time at MTE. I spoke for a second time, connected with old and new friends, and spoke with many people who are involved in the making of our detailing products.

It is not just the bottle. It was the thought that went into choosing the right ceramic coating company to partner with. It was not about how aggressively I could polish. It was how surgical I could be in paint correction, the critical thinking after taking the time to conduct many paint measurements, the focus on refinement, and carefully polishing what was appropriate. It was not about cleaning a car. It was prioritizing not damaging a car in the short-term and degrading it for the long-term. Over 2 1/2 Years. Wearing Aquatek Singular ceramic coating. Less frequent washing than I probably should or even recommend for my clients, believe it or not. For all coatings I recommend a chemical cleansing reset wash about once a year (very weak coatings 8 months). My car has not had chemical decontamination/reset wash yet. And a car that YES I DO DRIVE is due to be washed. Despite all of that this is how it looked this week after the rain.

Being the right auto detailer for my clients means going against the mainstream norms. The same lessons that I learned starting as a DIY detailer, I found applied to the professional realm. The "it's just a car" and "nobody will pay" has been consistent rhetoric I stood up to. But to dig deeper into my motivation, I became increasingly frustrated with a ever increasingly transactional and impersonal world. I still have the audacity to forsake efficiency and other cuts in quality, in order for my clients to FEEL SOMETHING SPECIAL every time I care for their car.

Why do I have and take pride in building a website that clearly defines who I am and who my typical client is? Why do I want ask questions and see your car, versus giving you a price over the phone (GUESSING WHAT YOUR EXPECTATIONS REALLY ARE)? Why do I want to be communicative with you in the interest of a long term relationship? That is what reputable auto detailing businesses with a track record of happy clients, do!
