Q-What is a windshield repair? A-This is a process of filling the crack or break in the windshield with a clear resin in order to prevent the window from cracking or breaking more to avoid needing a total windshield replacement later. Q-Can my car windshield just be repaired instead of being replac

ed? A-Windshield chip repairs can be accomplished very successfully if the impact area is no larger than a quarter or the crack is shorter than about 3 three inches. The success rate drops with size. Q-Will the damage totally disappear after being repaired? You will still be able to see where the point of impact occurred, but it will be slight. If someone does not look closely, they probably would not see it. This fix is to prevent the crack from spreading, not to make it disappear. Q- Can the windshield repair be redone if I do not like how it looks? Once the resin has been inserted into the glass and hardened, there is no way to redo it. Often the results depend on the size and type of damage to your car windshield and the amount of time between the occurrences of the damage and when it is repaired. The sooner you have the glass repaired, the better the chances of the results looking better. Q-Could something go wrong during the windshield repair that would damage my windshield further? A-There is always that possibility. Because applied pressure on the windshield is required there is always the chance it could cause the crack to spread. If your chip already has veins running from it, it will more than likely spread whether the pressure is applied or not. But, taking the chance and having it repaired is a better first choice than going directly to installing an entire new glass unless the cracks running through it are drastic. Q-Is there a guarantee on this type of windshield repair job? There will be no charge for any failed repairs. Q-How long does a repair take? A-Most standard repairs take less than a half hour. For multiple cracks and chips it will take a little longer. Q-Can I take my vehicle to the car wash after a completed windshield repair job? A-Yes. After the resin is fully cured, which only takes a matter of minutes, the car can be washed. Q-If it is raining can I still have my windshield repaired? It is necessary for the glass to be moisture-free.

Clamshell break in the frit of the windshield. Chips in the frit (black border) are the most neglected (out of sight, out of mind) and have a way of sneaking up on you.

Sometimes you get a chip the fully cooperates. Couldn’t see the chip afterwards, even with the 3x mirror.

This shows how important getting the repair done quickly is. Over time, if you wait, dirty water from rain/road spray, combined with wiper blades will allow junk to get into the crack and make the repair more visible.

This was a tricky one. Two separate chips, with slight communication on the crack wings.

Isolated the smaller chip by drilling out the debris for higher rain flow making it the path of least resistance. Then drilled out the larger chip for the second half. Other than two small pits (like pot holes) this ~2.5” chip cleanup up really well.

With the amount of damage this chip had, I’m surprised it came out as clear as it did.

This was a triple impact where it looks like the rock or projectile rolled on impact creating three very close chips and crack formations.

Was able to fill all of them in a two step process being fortunate that the middle impact was connected to the other larger ones. Filled the right one, capped it, then drilled out the left to fill in the rest. Came out looking pretty damn good.

Like they never happened.
